The **Physical Therapy Clinical Academic Educator **ensures high quality education for learners, particularly physical therapy (PT) and physical therapy assistant students within Toronto Rehab. This role also supports clinicians in their roles advancing teaching and learning. The Clinical Educator demonstrates both educational and PT expertise to lead collaborative approaches to learning at the interface of academic excellence and care and reports directly to the Senior Director, Clinical Education at UHN. The principal responsibilities include: utilizing best practices in education and interprofessional education to assess, design, plan, and deliver educational interventions that facilitate learning and educational development in care; encouraging, promoting and facilitating continuous learning for self and others to ensure constant improvement in teaching and learning; performing educational consultation responsibilities at the point of care; performing educational scholarship responsibilities; and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested. Additional responsibilities include:

- Collaboration with the Physiotherapy Discipline Head and Discipline Coordinator as part of the profession’s leadership team to advance academic education
- Primary academic liaison between academic institutions and Toronto Rehab for profession’s student learning and academic engagement
- Primary lead for design, mentorship, implementation and evaluation of profession’s student learning activities including but not limited to: placements, student research participation, labs and other experiential learning opportunities, observerships, clinical visits, etc.
- Leads educational development and support for staff
- Leads and participates in the recognition and celebration of educational excellence at Toronto Rehab and UHN
- Leads program evaluation and ongoing quality improvement to ensure Toronto Rehab and UHN as a placement of choice
- Leads advancement of Toronto Rehab and Education strategic priorities through academic education
- Leads overall processes (e.g. onboarding, orientation) to ensure timely and safe transition to clinical education
- Co-leads and participates in advancing interprofessional education for students and staff
- Facilitates Toronto Rehab’s participation in international education and observership programs
- Leads educational scholarship/research and innovation
- Leads development, implementation and evaluation of new models of teaching and learning
- Works collaboratively to develop, deliver and evaluate hospital-wide educational initiatives (e.g. UHN student registration system, integration and harmonization of practices and policies across UHN education, TAHSN wide student engagement initiatives)
- Provides academic education leadership in relation to key program and education priorities (e.g. functional planning, philanthropy, student scholarships with Research, quality and safety, etc.)
- Participates in relevant hospital committees and task forces as appropriate

**Qualifications**:

- Registered Physical Therapist in good standing with the College of Physical Therapists of Ontario
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience
- Minimum Masters degree in relevant area
- BCLS Certification
- Holds a status appointment with the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto (or can demonstrate eligibility)
- Superior communication skills
- Established educational expertise
- Demonstrated leadership skills specifically within a clinical education leadership role and change leadership
- Substantiated ability to mentor, educate and coach individuals and tea
