**Mission**

PAQ is an Indigenous organization that accompanies First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples facing housing insecurity in Tio’tià: ke / Montréal. Using a culturally adapted approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, we offer shelter, housing options and services that promote well-being and healing, and strengthen community. We work in partnership to advocate for the health and housing rights of urban Indigenous Peoples.

**Role summary**

Reporting to the Executive director and working closely with all Program and Service Coordinators, the Shelter Case Worker provides critical psycho-social supports to First Nations, Metis and Inuit women and men experiencing homelessness, or at risk, in downtown Montréal.

The person in this role promotes a healthy lifestyle with shelter users and provides counselling and intervention support on various immediate and longer-term social and psychological issues such as housing, medical care, employment, finances, and other basic needs. Conjugal and other forms of violence may be part of the caseload that requires solid crisis management skills. The case worker uses a culturally adapted approach that encompasses Indigenous traditions, culture, and world view.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Provide holistic and comprehensive clinical case management service to shelter participants and outside referrals using a culturally adapted trauma informed approach. Intervention services include:

- intake assessment
- accompaniment and referrals
- goal setting
- long
- and short-term case plan development
- progress monitoring and follow-up.
- Design with participants intervention or action plans tailored to their individuals needs and that meet their objectives.
- Build knowledge and networks of other partner services, programs, and resources to support referrals, and follow-up.
- Establish a bond of trust with participants through active listening and positive interactions
- Collaborate with other members of the intervention team to ensure effective and consistent case management.
- Represent PAQ on relevant external committees
- Maintain clinical case files
- Update and manage statistics and produced monthly activity reports.
- Provide occasional crisis intervention and back up at the shelter

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- Minimum 2 years experience working in a similar intervention/social work role or other related fields, preferably within the Indigenous community sector
- Bilingualism: proficient in spoken French and English; knowledge of an Indigenous language is a significant asset
- Knowledge and understanding of the impact of intergenerational trauma and on-going realities in Indigenous communities, urban barriers, and Indigenous social issues.
- Knowledge of various community and governmental services
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability to communicate well with team members and use a collaborative approach

**Required Academic or Other Qualifications**
- DEC or bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, or equivalent work experience
- First Aid certificate

**Other Requirements**
- Flexible schedule (regular evening and weekend activities)

**Additional Details**- Full time permanent position - unionized
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm
- Salary - $29/hour
- 70 hours per year of paid sick/personal time
- 3 weeks vacation per year
- Group insurance coverage after 3 months of employment
- **Location**:The employee will be based at the PAQ2 emergency shelter, located at 2060 Saint-Dominique Street, Montreal, H2X 2X1.
