**THE ROLE IN A NUTSHELL**
The Supervisor, Accounting has responsibility for the oversight and analysis of cash, accounts receivable and collections. Responsible to develop and manage strategies and operations related to these functions and to manage a team responsible for departmental daily activities. This position reports to the Manager, Corporate Accounting.
- Responsible for the oversight of client billings, accounts receivable and collections, cash receipts and settlements including:
- Scheduling, closing and administration of billings and reviewing all billing and general ledger entries
- Daily accounts receivable monitoring
- Review and approval of account reconciliations
- Supervise a mix of both non-union and union roles with adherence to the collective bargaining agreement.
- Integral member of the accounting team by participation in completing month end deliverables.
- Responsible for identifying and implementing process and efficiency improvements.
- Support new initiatives, evolving standards and financial requirements.
- Ensure compliance with government agencies, tax authorities, IFRS accounting standards and other internal control guidelines.
- Lead and/or participate in multidisciplinary project teams, and manage project accountabilities on time, within budget, and at the expected levels of delivery.
- Lead members of the department consistent with Green Shield Canada’s Mission, Vision and Values, and promote achievement of the department’s goals and objectives.
- Accountable to lead, motivate, support and provide effective mentoring, coaching for all direct reports.
- Provide advice and direction to members of the department in the negotiation of solutions to complex problems as requested.
- Liaise with others to identify and resolve issues related to the organization’s performance and operating efficiency.
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvement.
**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- Accounting designation (CPA) supported by a degree in Accounting, Business or similar discipline.
- Three or more years of supervisory experience in a Finance team.
- Competent in current accounting principles and guidelines and all relevant legislation and governance requirements.
- Experience in a regulated environment would be an asset.
- Strong business acumen and experience in discerning priorities and critical accountabilities.
- Experienced in leading projects or tasks requiring cross-functional integration.
- Demonstrated capability to build and lead effective teams through mentoring and coaching.
- Positive attitude and hands-on approach in proactively partnering with GSC employees at all levels to achieve results.
- Track record of building effective relationships and partnering with stakeholders inside and outside the organization in a highly collaborative manner.
- Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills; confident, credible and personable.
- Professional with a strong and responsive service orientation; self-confident with ego in check.
- Strong administrative, reporting, and analytical skills using MS Office tools.
