We are looking for a highly motivated Associate, Investment Operations (Public Markets) to join our team
As a key member of our Investment Finance team, the Associate, Investment Operations (Public Markets), will be responsible for investment administration, and operations. The role will involve liaising regularly with various external and internal parties, including clients, custodians and administrators, auditors, investment finance, corporate finance, cash management, legal, investment front office and others. The role is responsible for investor-level accounting for pool investments, including investor transactions and unitholder allocations. This position reports to the Manager, Investment Operations.
As a member of our team, you will be responsible for:
Custodian Oversight and Monitoring- Liaising with and overseeing custodians and administrators in performing various fund accounting functions and the preparation of unitholder capital statements.- Instructing, performing and/or reviewing investor-level transaction processing and fund-level accounting, including subscriptions, redemptions, distributions and expense accruals.- Reviewing custodian/ administrator fund NAV packages for accuracy and completeness, performing checks, reconciliations and maintaining shadow accounts as necessary to support fund NAV calculations and unitholder allocations.- Assisting with the oversight and monitoring of custodian and administrator service levels and other supplier relationship management duties.
Department Initiatives and Projects- Develop new processes and reporting for new pooling initiatives.- Participate in testing and report findings before new pool launches (related to accounting and custody).- Participate in training and testing new custodian systems/platforms and train team members, as required.- Create or assist the Data Team with providing specs and format to build new accounting/custody reports on custody related to new pools.- Assist with project planning, scoping, testing and implementation related to new internal systems.- Assist with review of quarter/annual financial statements related to pooling- Assist in the preparation of forms and templates for dry run and launch of investment pools (recordkeeping, accounting, and custody)
What do you need to succeed?- A university degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related discipline is required. CPA, CFA (or working towards the designation) and completion of securities courses is an asset.- 3+ years of experience in investment management, with direct experience working in Investment Administration or Investment Operations. Experience in the asset management industry is preferred.- Experience with client service and investment cost reporting and analysis are assets.- Understanding of capital markets and various investment products (e.g. bonds, equities, real estate, infrastructure, private equity, currency forwards and other derivatives, hedge funds) and their operational processes.- Working knowledge of MS Office products (Excel, Access, Word, etc.).- Excellent problem-solving and researching skills with a strong attention to detail.- Ability to consistently deliver quality outputs in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to work to tight deadlines and the capability to handle multiple projects and ad-hoc requests simultaneously.- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels and cultivate key partnerships to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues in a clear and compelling manner.- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.- Ability to prioritize competing daily tasks.- Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative to understand, support and implement goals and objectives.- Experience with system implementation and conversions an asset.- Ability to cope with change and function effectively in a dynamic working environment.
