**Job Description**:
**JOB TITLE**: Assistant Capital Works Technician - Construction (4 & 8 month co-op terms)

**DEPARTMENT**: Public Works and Engineering

**JOB STATUS & DURATION**: Part-time, seasonal and temporary

**HOURS OF WORK**:40 hours per week (shift work or flexible work hours may be required)

**LOCATION**: Various construction sites throughout the City of Brampton

**HOURLY RATE**: $18.04 / $19.44 / $20.98 / $22.87 per hour

**POSTING DATE**: February 1, 2023

**CLOSING DATE**: February 8, 2023

**AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY**:
Reporting to the Supervisor and working within the Construction Services section, this role will assist with inspections and contract management projects including roadways widenings, sewers, bridges, storm water management pond cleaning and road resurfacing. Training and guidance will be provided to assist in accomplishing your primary responsibilities. This is field inspection position that requires travel throughout the City of Brampton.
- Ensuring compliance of City standards and specifications.
- Inspect infrastructure construction/repairs completed by contractors such as sewers, water main, curbs, sidewalk, grading, asphalt paving and SWM pond maintenance.
- Assist in preparation of daily construction reports by compiling relevant data including working days, tasks completed, equipment and labour force.
- Investigate and respond to public inquiries.
- Maintaining detailed measurement records for payments.
- Notifying Capital Works Inspector / Operations Technician of issues with contractor workmanship, safety concerns or other incidents immediately.
- Assist with co-ordination for materials testing.
- Verify to ensure correct depths, dimensions and grades of infrastructure.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**SELECTION CRITERIA**:
**EDUCATION**:

- Completion of High School (Grade 12) or equivalent.
- Currently enrolled in a full time Civil Engineering Program or equivalent

**OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS**:

- Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s licence and the use of your own vehicle.
- Access to personal cellular phone for daily use.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Completion of Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and ability to walk/stand for long periods of time
