EIPS is recruiting a temporary Cafeteria Assistant at Fort Saskatchewan High.

Fort Saskatchewan High serves approximately 475 students in grades 10 to 12, with 24 teaching staff and 13 support staff. The school is located in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, approximately 20 kilometres north of Sherwood Park, AB. Fort Saskatchewan High aims to provide a stimulating student-centered environment that models lifelong learning where every person is provided with the opportunity to reach their own potential.

Ending December 22, 2023

22.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 4.5 hours per day)

Cafeteria Assistants’ main responsibility is to provide assistance in the kitchen. The cafeteria assistant assists in all areas of the cafeteria to ensure they are run in a positive and efficient manner. The cafeteria assistant helps teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and the kitchen. Under the direction of the teacher, they usually perform duties in the kitchen to complete tasks that the students are unable to finish or complete.

Work independently with students or in the classroom with the teacher.

Work with a particular special needs student or a group of students within a class.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Perform related duties in the kitchen.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in maintaining cleanliness in the entire kitchen and its equipment.

Laundry throughout the day to ensure clean aprons and clothes.

Assist in the daily set up and tear down of stations and work areas.

Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the storeroom, coolers and freezer.

Assist with inventory of tools, equipment, chemicals and supplies.

Kitchen, Cafeteria & Cafe Duties

Assist students in food production.

Assist students in making salads and dressings.

Assist students in making cold platters.

Help students to choose the proper ingredients.

Washing dishes and cleaning kitchen, and cafeteria area.

Prepare food for outside catering orders or special events.

Work some banquets when necessary.

Assist fellow workers in the kitchen to ensure the completion of jobs.

Assist in preparing, setting up, and dismantling displays, information areas, and work areas.

Financial Management

Operate till during lunch hour.

Count and balance cash daily.

Fill out the cash report at the end of each day.

Take cash to the business manager’s office daily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma

One (1) year experience in the industry

Understanding of WHIMIS and one year of experience in a high-volume restaurant would be an asset.

Food preparation knowledge in soups, sauces, desserts, bread and pastries and appetizers

Ability to operate deep fryer, large grill, meat slicers, industrial convection oven and industrial mixer
