**1 Full Time Permanent Role Available**

The Team Lead for the Microbiology Department is responsible for assisting the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager with the activities of the day and/or afternoon shift staff involved in the analysis of samples.

The key accountabilities of the role are:

- Adheres to Bureau Veritas’ Code of Ethics Policy
- Result orientated to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures
- Perform advanced sample preparation and sample analyses
- Manage and coordinate the priority organization and flow of samples
- Gain full knowledge with respect to performing analytical procedures and related quality control techniques by intense training
- Proactive in resolving analytical and process problems
- Identify and resolve analytical problems and suggests improvements in processes, staff, and equipment resources
- Willing to learn and continuously update skills and expertise through training
- Inspire, motivate and participate in building a strong team environment
- Uses good judgment to resolve personnel problems.
- Take initiative and is proactive in mentoring junior staff to effect process changes
- Lead, manage, develop and participates in building a strong team of analytical professionals
- Independently identify and isolate problems
- Support and enforce strict adherence to corporate Quality and Health & Safety policies
- Act as a Supervisor backup when Supervisor is absent or when instructed by the Supervisor
- Perform both basic and complex sample preparation and analyses
- Perform sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses
- Provide general and advanced lab support
- Perform method and/or data validation
- Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions (WI's) when conducting any laboratory work or procedure
- Ensures a high level of accuracy in sample prep and analysis
- Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabelling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials
- Prioritize daily workload based on sample and client requirement for self and junior staff
- Provide Supervisor/Manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays
- Understand analysis procedures and problem solves issues
- Identify any non-routine samples and seeks guidance on procedures for handling
- Identify and communicate non-conformances to Supervisor
- Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
- Meet Quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensures samples are analyzed within holding time requirements
- Participate in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work instructions (WI's)
- Provides input to corrective action procedures or may be assigned to perform the corrective action.
- Prepare Departmental meetings as directed
- Participate, when requested in internal and external audits
- Provide training, technical expertise and mentoring to junior staff
- Proactive in ensuring that consumable supplies are available in the lab
- Ensure instruments and equipment are being maintained appropriately and assesses new instruments
- Act as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas’s new initiatives (operational and cultural)
- Recommend solutions (technical/staffing), which will make the lab more effective and competitive
- Identify problems and recommends solutions (technical, procedural, quality, safety & human), to Management
- Assume a leading role in the planning and implementation of any procedural or equipment validation
- Coordinate laboratory projects
- Assess feasibility of Kaizen projects as needed
- Provide feedback to Supervisor/Manager on staff performance
- All other responsibilities as assigned
- Demonstrated success in the role of Analyst
- 3 to 5 years of experience in related area of testing
- Post-secondary school education (B.Sc. preferred) and equivalent experience
- Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions (WI's)
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
- Works both independently and as part of a team
- Detail orientated and record keeping skills
- Work under pressure to meet changing deadlines and shifting priorities
