Student Awards and Financial Aid (SAFA) is looking for a strategic, adaptable and collaborative team player to act as a key resource to the NAIT community in the area of student awards and financial aid. SAFA is responsible for the administration and management of government student funding and student awards for NAIT. SAFA ensures compliance to funding authority regulations and policy, as well as established donor award criteria. As a strategic partner in program and student success, SAFA works closely with the NAIT community, students, and Government of Alberta.

Reporting to the Compliance Coordinator, the Compliance Specialist is responsible for the organization, administration and operation of the Student Awards and Financial Aid portfolio, valued at $70 million. Key responsibilities include day-to-day management of disbursement related activities, managing reporting requirements related to the administration of grant and donor agreements and supporting confirmation of enrolment activities. The incumbent is responsible for the planning & implementation of new processes for the effective administration of student awards and financial aid. The Compliance Specialist must be adaptable and comfortable with change and, within the scope of their role, bring forward suggestions for improvements to business processes and contribute solutions that will satisfy multiple stakeholders.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Exercise considerable judgment in the interpretation of donor agreements, legislation and regulation in developing and adapting portfolio processes and procedures to meet portfolio objectives including (but not limited to) set up and implementation of NAIT’s Student Awards program, student aid, foundational learning assistance and payment plans
- Reviewing and approving donor agreements to ensure alignment to NAIT’s award criteria framework within the scope of their role
- Responsible troubleshooting set up issues impacting portfolio administration
- Exercise considerable judgment in the interpretation of student aid policy and legislation in required government reporting and documentation around program dates and costs
- Administration of Government of Alberta scholarships program including advertising, shortlisting and selecting award recipients, in conjunction with SAFA Specialists
- Responsible for validation and disbursement of other internal stakeholder awards (e.g. Athletics, MITACS, Education Abroad etc.)
- Responsible for program nomination processes and providing related support to NAIT programs and departments
- Responsible for the development and recommendation of changes to established policies and procedures, in consultation with supervisor
- Support student aid management and administration, including confirmation of enrolment activities
- Maintain knowledge and currency of policy, regulation, legislation and best practice in student aid administration and best practice in student award administration with a view to accuracy and to identify gaps and propose solutions

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Detailed knowledge of NAIT policies, procedures, pathways and programs
- Detailed understanding of portfolio strategy and objectives as well as broad understanding of overall objectives of the institution.
- Detailed knowledge of government scholarship, grant and student aid procedure & policy
- Detailed knowledge of student award best practice, procedure & policy
- Detailed knowledge of Foundational Learning procedure & policy
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of clients and stakeholders, including government officials
- Advanced research skills and the ability to synthesize and summarize information using a variety of information sources to come to a decision
- Ability to effectively manage complexity to identify pertinent policy, causal factors, related impacts, risks and a range of effective solutions
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills utilized when reviewing processes, identifying gaps, and making recommendations
- Capacity to organize and prioritize projects and activities, and adapt to ongoing changes and deadlines

**Qualifications**:

- Related Bachelor’s degree required
- Related work experience
- Previous experience in the post-secondary administration of student awards and/or financial aid is an asset
- Equivalencies may be considered

**Remuneration**: $2,063.58 - $2,714.07 biweekly with a comprehensive benefit plan. (Classification - Administrative Officer I).
- This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
