We seek a motivated** Youth Engagement and Settlement Worker** to join our **Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)** program team

**POSITION FUNCTION**:

- Under the supervision of the** Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)** program Manager, the** Youth Engagement and Settlement Worker** assists newcomer families and students in adapting to Canadian society by assessing clients' needs in their first language to develop, plan and deliver activities, programs and supports.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or any relevant field
- Combination of two years of post-secondary education, training, and two years of related work experience
- Ability to engage confidently with vulnerable populations and be patient and fun
- Experience working with activity development and collaborative community practice
- Knowledge of Immigration and settlement services for immigrants and refugees, including relevant information and issues
- **Ability to speak, read and write fluently in English and Spanish is required**:

- Current first aid certification or be willing to obtain one
- Valid B.C. driver's license, access to a vehicle and being willing to travel to various locations throughout the district is an asset
- Clear vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check

**DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Be familiar with MOSAIC’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and integrated client service delivery approach and remain current with CARD standards and practices.
- Will organize and coordinate presentations and group activities in schools and communities, including weekends and evenings, as required.
- Work collaboratively with SWIS / MOSAIC team members and community partners
- Provides cultural interpretation services to clients and school staff from
- Maintain accurate and timely program documentation and submit monthly reports electronically and on paper, identifying successes and challenges.
- Outlining a strategy for successful settlement based on needs, available services, and community support
- Promote student engagement in lunch and after-school activities to foster self-exploration, leadership, and goal setting.
- Regular meetings are held with youth and families to discuss challenges faced during settlement and integration in new schools and Canada.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

**_ WORKING MONTHS: _**_September to June (8 weeks lay off during July & August) _

**SCHEDULE**: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Monday to Friday (Some weekends and before or after school hours may be required.)

**LOCATION**: New Westminster Schools, New Westminster, BC
