St. Matthew’s House (SMH) is a charitable not-for-profit multi-service agency. Services include emergency food, crisis intervention and outreach to seniors and vulnerable persons to support independent living. Clients include persons with limited or no income, persons living in poor health or with chronic conditions, persons of all ages and newcomers.

In partnership with Christ’s Church Cathedral, the Diocese of Niagara Anglican and Hamilton Out of the Cold, SMH will be operating a warming centre at Cathedral Place at Christ’s Church Cathedral - Myler Hall Location. The centre will begin operating December 1, 2023 and cease operations March 31, 2024. This role is a four-month contract to work in the warming centre. The Warming Centre Mobile worker will support this location as well as visiting other nearby day centres to provide support.

The Warming Centre Mobile Worker reports to the Warming Centre Supervisor and is responsible for providing support to clients who access the warming centre, as well as supporting and visiting nearby day centres to provide support as needed. Support may include (but not limited to) connection to the shelter system or assistance with income supports, as well as providing meals, first-aid supplies, or simple conversation and social engagement. The Warming Centre Mobile Worker will use HIFIS and other methods for tracking statistics and attendance.

The Warming Centre Mobile Worker will provide services to individuals living in poverty who may not be suitable for other mental health services. Our client base can be expected to live with poverty, mental illness, and/or homelessness.

**Qualifications**:

- A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a community service based non-profit organization with experience working out in the community
- A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle are required as some local travel is necessary.
- Diploma in social work, social services or related fields, or specific training in counseling and specific Mental Health Training
- Experience in psychiatric/mental health services and other community programs
- Knowledge of community resources and services, social and environmental determinants of health, health promotion, disease prevention, curative, rehabilitative, and supportive services
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment start date.
- Valid Certificate - Standard First Aid with Level C CPR is an asset
- Non-violent crisis intervention training is an asset
- Fluent in at least one other language is an asset

**Duties**:
The duties and responsibilities of the Warming Centre Mobile Worker will include:

- One-on-one contact with individuals living in at-risk conditions, and providing immediate support (Coffee, warmth, clothes, etc.) as well as support accessing other services (shelters, income supports, taxes, etc)
- Providing these services to multiple partnering warming centres as needed/scheduled.
- A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle are required as some local travel is required.
- Providing a comfortable, inclusive, welcome environment for clients accessing the Warming Centre
- Engage clients in rapport-building, friendly conversation
- Supportive counseling and crisis intervention
- Advocate on behalf of clients and/or support them to advocate for themselves
- Collaborate and coordinate services with community agencies - City of Hamilton, hospitals, pharmacies, transportation services, shelters, postal services, etc.
- Marking client updates in the HIFIS system as well as tracking attendance for statistics purposes
- Administering and entering VI-SPDAT scores into the HIFIS system to facilitate connection to the coordinated access system
- Maintaining stock of overdose prevention product, as well as safe usesupplies
- Perform regular safety checks of bathrooms / other areas clients may congregate, including outside (on the property)
- Light cleaning duties as required
- Other duties as required
