The Education Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of the Society’s educational programs which include public and caregiver education and skills development training to a full range of target groups. The coordinator will increase public awareness and education regarding the symptoms and long-term effects of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias on people living with the disease and their care partners. The Coordinator deliver presentations and training sessions for the general public; health care professionals and caregivers as well as all specified levels of training for new and existing volunteers and for specific volunteer assignments. As a key member of the Alzheimer Society Team the Education Coordinator will strive to ensure the effective delivery of the Alzheimer Society’s core services.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include, but may not be limited to**:

- Initiate and maintain public education activities in the community to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias
- Design and deliver/coordinate educational programs and training events for a variety of target groups (e.g. professionals, students, volunteers, caregivers, long-term care facility staff etc.) as needed to improve dementia care
- Coordination of education and research content for all internal public awareness/educational communications collaterals (e.g. newsletter)
- Contribute to external educational communications (e.g. Society and other newsletters, newspaper articles etc.)
- Ensures all outgoing materials related to education and public awareness are branded appropriately
- Promote services throughout the City of Kingston, and the counties of Frontenac, Lennox & Addington
- Assist in the planning and coordination of the Annual Awareness Campaign (January) and in Senior’s Month (June)
- Maintain ongoing contact with colleagues and contacts external to the organization clients to ensure educational requirements are being met
- Assist in the development of an annual education plan and report for the Society
- Maintain a current knowledge of Alzheimer disease, related dementias and current resources. Be prepared to upgrade skills as required
- Act as a staff liaison to committees as assigned
- Participate in community forums and committees related to dementia services and supports
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and community partners to meet Society mission and mandate
- Develop and implement means of continuous improvement of educational services
- Prepare a monthly statistical and summary report of education activities and events
- Assume other functions as may be assigned by the Executive Director.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Enthusiastic, empathetic, professional who is a positive thinker
- Post-secondary education in gerontology, education, social work, public health, nursing or social services field i.e. Dementia Studies certificate
- Knowledge and experience in gerontology and geriatric care
- Experience working with persons with dementia and/or their families
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias
- Previous experience and/or knowledge of dementia and its impact on families
- Extensive knowledge of community healthcare agencies and resources
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
- Understanding of adult learning principles i.e. dialogue education
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent public presentation skills
- Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle
- Computer literate and willing to learn new software
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Attention to detail, strong work ethic and ability to work outside customary business hours
