The Supervisor, Laboratory Assistant supervises Laboratory Assistants and designated staff at the assigned site, performs the functions of a Laboratory Assistant as required, and performs various related clerical

**What you’ll do**
- Supervises Lab Assistants and other designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling, coordinating and prioritizing work assignments, assisting with evaluating employee
- performance, and determining related training and orientation requirements.
- Calls in and allocates relief staff to fill temporary vacancies in accordance with established procedures.
- Performs clerical duties such as processing billing paperwork, performing timekeeping functions, compiling workload statistics, making patient appointments, maintaining filing system for lab reports,
- monitoring and ordering phlebotomy and office supplies, answering the telephone and entering patient information and test results into the laboratory information system. Communicates test results to
- designated parties and handles inquiries from other health care professionals.
- Performs the duties of a Laboratory Assistant as required including specimen collection, preparation and testing and related clerical functions.
- Provides input into the department's orientation, policy and procedures manual on areas pertaining to the work performed by Lab Assistants at the assigned site; assists with maintaining manuals by typing
- approved updates as required.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area according to established policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**What you bring**

Qualifications
- Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, plus three years' recent, related experience including one year in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education,
- training and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to supervise.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to type 25 w.p.m.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
