The Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) performs a critical role in ensuring and maintaining Manitoba’s public safety. The overall mission is to build a stronger fire service and to better protect Manitobans.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must have a valid Full Manitoba class 5 driver's licence or equivalent.
- Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba.
- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including respirator.
- Must be able to obtain satisfactory driver's abstract.
- Must be able to obtain satisfactory criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry check.
- Must be able to perform the physical duties of the position, including lifting heavy objects, kneeling, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights and entering confined spaces in various temperatures.

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Completion of vocational training, recognized apprenticeship program, or other post-secondary education related to fire safety prevention and protection programs, building or construction management. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining positive and collaborative partnerships with diverse clients and stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple or competing priorities within tight timeframes.
- Extensive knowledge of effective inspection techniques and procedures.
- Significant experience in a supervisory or management role in any of the building and construction trades or occupations, preferably including experience in specialized fire and life safety systems inspections.
- Ability to provide consultation, advice and code interpretations within a regulatory framework environment.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Strong written communication skills for the preparation of a variety of correspondence and reports for diverse audiences.
- Strong verbal communication skills for effectively communicating complex information to individuals and groups in a clear, organized manner.
- Knowledge of various fire protection/detection systems.

**Desired**:

- Certificate in Fire Inspector level 1 (NFPA 1031)
- Red Seal designation in any building-related trade.
- Knowledge of Manitoba Fire and Building Codes and Supporting Regulations.
