**Summer Morning Activity Leader**

To offer an outstanding program for children ages 5 - 12 in our community, the Summer Camp Morning Activity Leader will work within a team of staff and be responsible for childcare, programming, and parent contact/ liaison. This position helps with the organization, leadership, administration, and implementation of the Oaklands Community Association’s Summer Camp Program which services children in Oaklands and the Greater Victoria Area. The position is supervised and reports to the Summer Camp Program Coordinator.

**Supervision**:

- Be familiar and adhere to BC Child Care Licensing standards of care and remain compliant to Licensing requirements and all OCA’s Policies and Procedures
- Provide supervision of the children, ensuring the program considers the health and well-being of all children as the highest priority. Provide guidance to children during daily activities, field trips and special activities
- Establish and maintain good communication with children’s families and community agencies involved in children’s development
- Take daily attendance, document all behavioural challenges in the appropriate communication logs, complete critical incident/ accident reports and maintain medication forms as required

**Room Accountabilities**:

- Prepare room for service delivery including planned activities and snack; ensure cleanliness and organization of space and supplies, including supply cupboards/closets; assist in other housekeeping duties
- Research and implement new and innovative program ideas; engage with children and other leaders in implementation of crafts, games or other activities planned for the day, including outlining day on whiteboard.
- Be a positive role model for all children, using appropriate language and modeling in all areas; facilitate positive and professional parent/staff and children/staff relations
- Build children’s social/interpersonal skills and self-esteem by establishing routines and positive guidance policies that allow children to feel secure, comfortable and safe.
- Assist in organizing and preparing for family transitions into and exiting your room including greeting children and families, providing cubby space, supporting children into setting/transitioning into program, etc.
- Be informed of children registered in the program, including specific information such as allergies and custody issues/ parent pick-up schedules/ authorized alternate pick-up people.

**Specific Accountabilities/Deliverables**
- Attend and participate in all team meetings; may be required to participate in Health & Safety training and meetings.

**Hours of Work**:This is a contracted full-time position. Shift is 7:15am-10:15am, working a maximum 15 hours/week, Monday - Friday. This position is expected to fulfill all 8 weeks of camp over the summer between June 29 - August 29, 2023, with the exception of Statutory Holidays.

**Compensation**: Wages is $18.50/hour plus 4% in lieu of holiday pay. This position offers OCA discounts.

**Qualifications/ Requirements**
- Be 19 years of age
- Have a minimum of twenty hours child-related coursework
- Have a minimum of two years’ experience working in a leadership role with children in a childcare/recreational setting
- Current first aid certification and clean criminal record check
- Strong leadership skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Preference to those who have their Class 4 driving license
- Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment
