Job Title**:Camp Coordinator (Camptastiq)**

Reports to: Childcare Coordinator

**Role**:

- Senior Camp Leader
- Coaching and mentoring camp staff to help support children and achieve program success
- Working collaboratively with the Childcare Coordinator in planning everyday camp themes, activities, schedules, and out-trips for each of the 8 weeks of camp

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Works with the Childcare Coordinator to plan & implement an inclusive day camp program for children 5-12 years from a wide range of cultures (most notably nearby urban aboriginal and newcomer youth), and ensures excellence in the quality of care
- Collaborates with the Childcare Coordinator to provide relevant training for current and incoming camp staff prior to the first week of camp
- Facilitates positive role modeling, boundary setting, crisis management, fostering cooperation and sharing, self-esteem building, inclusiveness, and pride in diversity.
- Provides support and direct care to children, encouraging their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth.
- Supports the creation and provision of clear and accessible schedules for Camptastiq.
- In conjunction with the Childcare Coordinator, acts as a liaison with parents, caregivers, schools, and relevant agencies.
- Provides floor supervision related to camp leaders, practicum students, and volunteers. Direct, supervise and support camp leaders on a daily basis.
- Assists with the planning, implementing, and setting up of daily developmentally appropriate activities for program participants.
- Identifies and supports program participants who are having challenges and works with them on useful skills through modeling, mentoring, teachable moments, and supportive conversations. This includes working with camp leaders to implement strategies.
- Plans and implements referrals and initiatives to enhance the self-esteem of children, and creates and implements useful strategies that are consistent with the agency’s Policy & Procedures.
- Ensures camp leaders are familiar and practiced with safety and emergency procedures.
- Maintains awareness of participant feedback and integrates constructive feedback in practice/programs.
- Ensures that the program environments are clean, safe, suitable, caring, respectful, and inclusive, and collaborates with staff to accomplish this.
- Responds to general inquiries regarding Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee (DBAC)/Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) and shares in the work of operating and maintaining a respectful, inclusive, functional, and useful community centre.
- Is familiar with and implements the agency’s policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ensures the maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding Camptastiq.
- Makes regular written and verbal reports as required by the Childcare Coordinator.
- Transports children as appropriate and ensure that applicable logbooks and vehicle upkeep are maintained.
- Performs other related duties when required and approved by the Childcare Coordinator and/or Executive Director.

**Qualifications**:

- Commitment to anti-oppressive, decolonial, and anti-racist practice.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline such as Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Early Childcare, and/or significant training in one or more of these areas.
- At least 20 hours of training in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
- Valid First Aid Certificate, Food Safe and Class 4 Driver’s Licence (preferred).
- Minimum two years’ experience supervising, facilitating activities and working with children 5-12 years of age with a wide range of developmental needs and challenges.
- Minimum 1-year relevant experience working directly with school aged children 4 to 12.
- Minimum 6 months staff supervision experience.
- A clear Criminal Record Check
- **Must be eligible for the Canadian Summer Jobs program**:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment
- have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulation

**Experience and Education**:
Experience and education directly related to summer camp, school aged childcare, recreation, child and youth development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation, program delivery or health and nutrition.

**Hours of Work**:

- 35-40 hours Monday through Friday. July 4th through August 25th, 2023
- Additional training hours could occur prior to the start of camp
- Closed on Statutory Holidays

**Salary and Benefits**:

- $20.75 /hour plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation
- Eligible for the Employee Assistance Program
