**The Position**:
We are currently seeking a diligent and experienced individual to join our team as a Safety Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and managing safety programs and initiatives to promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
**The Location**:
The position will be based out of our Acheson location, the ability to commute to Acheson is required.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and policies in compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and assessments to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions to mitigate potential dangers.
- Provide guidance and support to management and staff on safety-related matters, including training programs, safety procedures, and emergency response protocols.
- Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to ensure that safety measures are integrated into all aspects of operations, including transportation logistics, maintenance, and warehouse activities.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, near misses, and workplace injuries, and prepare reports for management review and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external agencies, auditors, and regulatory bodies regarding safety inspections, audits, and compliance matters.
- Stay informed about changes in safety regulations, industry best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously improve safety performance and minimize risks.
- Conduct investigations into safety incidents and accidents, analyze root causes, and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Maintaining ISN, ComplyWorks, and third-party sites ensuring they are compliant and up to date.
- Maintaining the company’s COR certification, ensuring all documentation and requirements are met in a timely manner.
- Provide safety-related training and orientation for new employees and subcontractors, emphasizing the importance of safety culture and compliance.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
- Knowledge of a COR program and maintaining certification.
- Working with ISN, ComplyWorks, and other third-party safety sites is an asset
- Knowledge of NSC and WCB regulations and procedures is essential.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, NCSO, CSP) are an asset.
- Strong understanding of safety management systems, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience with safety management software is preferred.
