Job Title**:Summer Outreach Worker**

**Job Type**: Project Term

Term: June 3 to August 23, 2024 (12-weeks)

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10:00am to 6:00pm (28 hours/week)

Wage: $16.00 per hour

- **Voices: Manitoba’s Youth in Care Network **_is a rights-based, youth-driven organization that engages, equips, and empowers youth in and from care, ages 12 to 30, through activities that focus on personal, emotional, and social development. We come alongside youth while they are in care, as they transition to in(ter)dependence, and as they grow into adults pursuing their goals. _
- We raise awareness of the challenges youth-in-care face, educating the public and working with child welfare professionals to create a better system of care in Manitoba. Improving living conditions for children and youth who find themselves in alternative care, such as foster homes, group homes, and independent living programs. Voices: Manitoba’s Youth in Care Network is under the stewardship of BGC Winnipeg. _

**Summer Outreach Worker Responsibilities**:
The Voices Summer Outreach Worker is responsible for engaging youth in and from care by helping to plan and facilitate activities. As a Summer Outreach Worker, you represent Voices: Manitoba's Youth in Care Network in the community, creating spaces where young people in and from care can participate in activities that help them to know and practice their rights while building healthy relationships.
- Help plan and facilitate activities and events that are intended to engage and foster involvement of youth-in/from-care
- Assist in facilitating rights and advocacy workshops
- Collaborate with community organizations, schools, caregivers, service providers to advocate for and develop resources and supports for young people
- Support access to appropriate resources for participants
- Be a positive role-model
- Represent Voices in the community
- Follow-up with participants after events, meetings, activities

**Experience/Qualifications**:

- Understanding of Manitoba’s child welfare system
- Experience working with young people
- Value the importance of creating a safe place for young people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, abilities and lived experiences
- Comfortable in public speaking (delivering presentation, leading groups)
- Lived experience in Manitoba’s child welfare system (group homes, foster homes, kinship care, adoption, independent living programs) is considered an asset
- You can provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Check prior to employment (dated within the last 6 months)

**Employment Eligibility**

These position are funded by Government of Manitoba - Urban Green Team and Metis Employment & Training which have eligibility criteria.

**Urban Green Team funded position**
- legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizen; landed immigrant; or student with a valid visa)

**Metis Employment & Training funded position**
- Metis Citizen
- Graduating high school spring 2024 and plan to attend post secondary full time in 2024-2025
