This 4-month co-op placement with the Sustainability team at MCW Consultants Ltd. is an excellent opportunity for students interested in learning about the growing role of sustainable building and infrastructure policy in development. Students will receive hands-on experience in the development of policies and guidelines focused on community revitalization and resilience, as well as sustainable and adaptable infrastructure. This placement will provide context on how these policies and guidelines get developed and implemented at different government levels. More broadly, this role will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the green building standards that are driving the movement to lower the built environment’s climate impact.

**Position**: Sustainability Student

**Start Date**: January 2024 (4-month placement)

**Location**: Toronto

**Responsibilities**: The Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

- Support the development of policies and guidelines focused on community revitalization and resilience
- Support the development of forward-thinking action planning focused on climate change adaptation
- Perform reviews of relevant existing climate change and resilience policies and data. Parse important information, report on it for a project team, and incorporate these findings into policy development
- Review building design documentation to determine the feasibility for projects to achieve various sustainability standards, including Toronto Green Standard, LEED, and Zero Carbon Building Standard
- Work with internal and external stakeholders on creative sustainable design solutions for projects
- Prepare green building-related reports and presentations

**Preferred Education & Experience**:

- Currently enrolled in secondary education in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or a related field
- An understanding of urban infrastructure systems
- Very strong written communicator
