**The Opportunity**

Reporting directly to the Owner & Head of Operations, the General Carpenter is responsible for completing and/or overseeing various construction activities as part of both small and large scale residential renovation projects. They will work with a team and also have the opportunity to manage some project aspects independently.

**Responsibilities**
- Safe demolition and disassembly of residential building structures.
- Wood and steel framing for residential construction including floor systems, walls, and roof systems.
- Installing various insulation products including fiberglass, rockwool and rigid foam.
- Installation of drywall board, including mudding, taping and prime check.
- Finishing carpentry work including trim, millwork installation, hanging doors/windows, and working with a variety of siding materials.
- Tile setting, flooring installation, and railing system installation.
- Installing other finishing materials and hardware as required.
- Independently manage some on-site aspects of projects including interacting with sub-contractors, accepting material deliveries, and liaising with clients as necessary.

**Qualifications**
- 4+ years carpentry experience in the residential construction and renovation industry.
- Sound familiarity and confidence using common hand and power tools, including miter and table saws, circular saws, demolition tools, drills and drivers.
- Strong understanding and experience with the use of a measuring tape and ability to complete carpentry mathematics, including addition and subtraction of fractions, rise and run calculations, and angles.
- An understanding of health and safety requirements on a construction site, including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Comfortability working as part of a team and independently as required.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to voice concerns and share ideas.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem solving skills.
- Advanced building techniques and a familiarity with R2000, LEED and Net Zero building standards is an asset.
- Familiarity with bending aluminum flashing is an asset.

**Other Details**
- Personal transportation is required and willingness to travel within 50 km of Ottawa city centre. Work locations may change from day to day based on project requirements.
- Must own basic hand tools, standard cordless power tool kit, and basic finish carpentry tools.
- Annual allowance will be provided for purchase of tools and PPE.

**Salary**: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 44 per week

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Supplemental pay types:

- Bonus pay
- Overtime pay

**Experience**:

- carpentry: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Driving Licence (required)
