**SUMMARY**

The People and Culture Officer, under the direction of the Director, People and Culture, is responsible for overseeing proper administration of personnel files for diocesan lay employees, Catholic Cemetery employees and members of the clergy. The People and Culture Officer will also be responsible for administering group insurance benefits and the pension plan for eligible individuals. He / She will also provide support to Safe Environment as/when needed.

**Recruitment**
- Prepare recruitment materials and post jobs to appropriate job boards.
- Assess applicants’ relevant knowledge, skills, soft skills, experience and aptitudes
- Conduct interviews and administer assessments.
- Conduct reference checks
- Onboard new employees until they are fully integrated.

**Administration of group benefits program and pension plan**
- Enroll, update, and terminate members accordingly.
- Guide members in obtaining employment insurance benefits (sickness benefits, maternity, parental, etc.) and/or long-term disability benefits under the diocesan group insurance plan.
- Ensure OHIP replacement coverage is in place if applicable.
- Respond to various inquiries and disseminate information (verbally and in writing) to parishes, clergy, lay staff, various organizations, government and the public.

**Administration**
- Provide administrative support to the Director, People and Culture: draft letters, contracts, and other documents as required.
- Create new employee files and ensure they are updated as needed.
- Maintain a proper filing system for the HR Department and sort incoming mail.
- Monitor employee attendance in accordance with diocesan policies and signals any discrepancies.
- Ensure a permanent link with the payroll department to guarantee an appropriate flow of information.
- Register new employees for all mandatory trainings and ensure that they complete the assigned training modules.
- Assist and answer questions from employees and clergy regarding the various platforms (Breeze, Canada Life, Sunlife, Citation Canada).
- Provide various administrative support to Safe Environment when needed.

**Other**
- Contributes to any other mandate or project relevant to the position.

**Job Requirements and skills**
- 2 to 3 years of experience in Human Resources.
- Hands-on experience in recruitment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) in both official languages (English and French)
- Demonstrate diplomacy, tact, and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
- Detail-oriented team player with strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
- Demonstrate critical thinking, as well as attention to detail.
- Ensure confidentiality of all staff, clergy, and volunteer information.
- Excellent knowledge of office 365, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church and its hierarchical functioning would be considered an asset.
- Recent Enhanced Police Information Check (EPIC).

**WORK CONDITIONS AND LOCATION**
- Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. 8:30am to 4:30pm (including 30 min unpaid lunch break)
- Work in an office environment with individual workstations.
- Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals.
- Interacts with employees and management.
- Sitting, standing and walking.
