**Work Period**:
- Casual work from February to mid-May 2025 - Schedule to be determined and hybrid work options may not be available.
- Full time (35 hours per week) from mid-May to end of August 2025 - 100% in-office
**JOB SUMMARY**
- Manages all program planning, program delivery and administration for the inclusion services within the City of Markham’s Summer Day Camps.
- Oversees approximately 60-100 campers with disabilities ranging primarily from 4 to 16 years of age, while supervising and coaching 15-20 staff including inclusion supervisors and inclusion counselor.
- Provides support to staff in day camps via inclusion services.
- Responsible for coordinating implementing and supervising camp inclusion services initiatives. Where appropriate, ensures accessible recreation and leisure opportunities as well as integrated services for all ages and abilities in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Through effective leadership and adaptive programming, enables campers with disabilies to participate in camp activities so they can develop skills, make friends, socialize and build self-esteem.
- Provides leadership, supervision, guidance and resources to inclusion and camp staff. Accountable for day-to-day operations under the guidance of the Recreation Coordinator, Programs and Outreach, ensuring camp activities are safe, inclusive and high quality.
- Ensures consistency in camp policies and processes including training and communication in conjunction with other camp directors.
**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provides daily direction and support to inclusion and camp staff as required, planning and scheduling resources, routines, schedules and procedures to ensure successful implementation.
- Oversees daily activities across camps including the before and after care program, ensuring programming is effective and adapted to individual camper needs (i.e. safety, hygiene, weather, breaks etc.).
- Assists Community Program Supervisor and/or Community Recreation Coordinator with reviewing and adapted daily camp programs and activity plans created by camp supervisors
- Prioritizes child well-being, safety and protection throughout the camp. Evaluates situations for potential risks to the safety, protection and well-being of campers and staff, proactively taking mitigating actions to address such risks.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to and appreciation of disabilities and diversity generally.
- Assesses potential campers with disabilities and arranges appropriate placements. May conduct intake meetings with families as required to better understand the individual’s unique case and support needs. Prepares and circulates pre-camp intake reports for staff.
- Acts as a leader role model, fostering a positive learning environment where people feel included as members of a team and are motivated to work towards common goals.
- Liaises with camp supervisors and staff to resolve any issues with the support of the Community Program Supervisor and/or Community Recreation Coordinator
- Displays a heightened sense of customer service.
- Provides regular updates and feedback to the Camp Directors and Recreation Coordinator, Programs and Outreach
- Plans and implements camp staff training. Plays a leadership role in camp preparations as well as regular meetings.
- Ensures adherence of policies and procedures working closely with other directors to ensure consistency under the guidance of the Recreation Coordinator, Programs and Outreach.
- Provides on-going training, coaching and recognition to staff and volunteers. Provides regular feedback and completes formal performance assessments for all direct reports. May assist with recruitment and screening of camp staff.
- Serves as the main point of contact for City-wide crisis management for campers with special needs, conducting evaluations of the services and providing options to parents.
- Research information regarding various disabilities to ensure successful integration and accommodation.
- Oversees adaptive supplies and equipment inventory for sessions, ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are purchased and received in accordance with City policies and budget.
