The Officer, Research and Data Operations is responsible for developing and managing the annual research plan, information systems, and tools necessary to ensure the Development Department’s research function and prospect management system are of the highest quality and effectiveness. The Officer will utilize research tools and software products to contribute to the productivity and efficiency of the department’s fundraising function and uphold a culture of continuous development and continuous improvement by providing support to the Data Operations Team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Research and Profiling
- In collaboration with Solicitors and Program Managers, devise and implement ongoing strategies for identifying and obtaining new prospects through data mining and other techniques to ensure the continual development, expansion, and renewal of the prospect pool.
- Use the CRM database (Tessitura) along with the latest professional research methods, techniques and tools to qualify prospects by conduction detailed research and analysis to determine wealth capacity, philanthropic interests, connectivity with and affinity to the organization, and other relevant information that can be used to establish priorities and strategies for successful solicitation.
- Disseminate relevant information clearly and concisely in appropriate formats, including profiles, ratings tools, strategy backgrounders, qualified lists, etc.
- Prepare research, reports and other materials required for regular Solicitors/Prospect Management meetings; provide insight and advice to priorities and strategies for approaching donors. Update CRM database accordingly.

Database Management
- Maintain accurate donor biographical information; connections, committee membership, relationships, philanthropic commitments, etc.
- Collaborate with the Development, Audience & Donor Services, and ITS departments to create and manage systems for acquiring, analyzing, reporting, and storing constituent data and identifying new donors.

Administrative Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an annual research plan to meet the information needs of the Development Department and Senior Volunteers in preparation for contacting, cultivating, and soliciting prospects.
- Coordinate nomination packages and letters of support for award and recognition of donors, volunteers, and corporate sponsors.
- Identify donors in Development event photos, and assist the Development Communication team in the cataloguing and archiving of the photos
- Maintain expertise on best practices and resources in the research field.
- Play an active role in the team, contributing to the efficient running of operations.
- Provide administrative support to the Data Operations Team in facilitated workshops/discussions both internally and externally of the company.
- Document group discussion and decisions as needed, and support and development of accompanying deliverables as directed by the Senior Manager, Operations.

Qualifications:

- University degree or equivalent, preferably in Library and Information Science or similar program.
- Minimum 3-5 years of prospect management and research experience in a not-for-profit environment.
- Proficient in current methods of information acquisition, including both online and print sources.
- Investigative and research skills and experience in a research-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Canadian business environment.
- Highly proficient Microsoft Office user, including Word and Excel with the interest and ability to learn new systems. Tessitura experience an asset.
- Possess significant knowledge of the fundraising cycle, and the role that research plays in contributing to successful relationship management.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Be strategic, resourceful and independent, while being able to work within an integrated and team-oriented environment.
- Manage multiple stakeholders, priorities and deadlines.
- Exhibit professionalism, judgement, and discretion while attending to confidential and sensitive matters.
- Some evening and weekend work required when the Company is performing.
- Conduct that demonstrates adherence to the AFP Standards of Professional Practice.
