**The Position**

In this role as a casual on-call cook, you will be preparing meals for Supportive Housing, CRC, and Shelter as part of our food systems team, and serving our folks to promote the role of food as an integral part of a healing environment.

We are looking for a individual with a flexible schedule who is a team player and can work collaboratively with the Food System and Supportive Housing teams. This is a role that will suit someone who has a passion for making food and values including participants in our food system.

Lift challenges the current food system by prioritizing Social Connection, Full Circle Impacts, Food Security, Education and Meaningful Work. We reduce food waste while increasing food access operating out of our community gardens, kitchens and the Nook Café. The casual Cook will be supported by a team of dedicated individuals while operating in the housing kitchen, which is a satellite to the Community Resource Centre Food Hub.

- Hourly Wage: $22.65 per hour
- Job Type: Casual
- Reports to: Manager - Food Systems
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Closing Date: Open until filled

**Key Tasks and Competencies**
- Maintain proper sanitation and preparation practices and procedures.
- Balance needs of clients within program limits.
- Collaborative team approach for continuity of care.
- Vision and prepare meals for service.
- Support and collaborate in the daily creation of 86 meals served 365 days a year
- Serve hot meals to participants using food as a loving point of connection and care

**Qualifications and Lived Experience**
- One (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current Food Safe and First Aid
- Possesses a valid driver's license
- Familiar with local community resources
- Ethically aligned with Harm-Reduction practices
- Demonstrates excellent communication and active listening skills
- Demonstrates professional boundaries
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency response protocol
- Ability to remain alert and perform tasks in demanding environment
- Ability to remain calm and responsive during crisis incident response
- Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback
- Contributes to a culturally safe environment

**Knowledge**
- Knowledge of food, meal preparation, and the functions of an efficient kitchen
- Understands the therapeutic role of food in a successful supportive housing environment
- Understands the Housing First model and the concept of barriers to housing
- Understands the needs of individuals with concurrent disorders
- Is familiar with common health issues and is sensitive to cultural differences
- Understands the harsh realities of stigma
- Lived experience is empowering for those we serve and welcomed.
