The Centre of Forensic Sciences provides forensic testing services for criminal and non-criminal investigations in the province of Ontario. It operates independently of, but in partnership with, police, prosecutors and other stakeholders to produce objective, unbiased test results and opinions of importance to the justice system.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**:

- Ensure the quality of technical and scientific operations in support of casework across the province, including consistency with the wider forensic science community.
- Provide input to assist management in establishing objectives and priorities for deployment of resources to ensure timely delivery of forensic services.
- Provides training and competency assessments; approve staff credentials and authorize staff to conduct discipline specific forensic casework.
- Provide technical supervision and leadership to staff as technical authority for the discipline.
- Plan, develop and determine section examination methods used throughout the province to ensure consistency of forensic test results.
- Evaluate case and research reports.
- Provide expert testimony in courts of law and other official tribunals related to area of expertise in procedural, scientific and technical issues related to the discipline.
- Evaluate and approve all scientific and technical methods used by the laboratory in the delivery of forensic casework services in Ontario; identify new methods, propose modifications, and ensure appropriate documentation
- Appraise and recommend scientific instruments, equipment and supplies which have a material effect on the quality of casework services delivered throughout the province.
- Develop, promote and maintain collaborative relationships with scientific and technical staff and managers and with other forensic laboratories to align quality assurance initiatives, and to ensure best practices in the discipline.
- Represent the CFS by leading or participating on committees, special projects, and working groups related to technical and quality management and assurance issues.
- Lead and oversee the implementation of all aspects of the quality assurance program across the discipline to ensure quality products and services for the justice system, including proficiency testing, equipment calibration and maintenance, and technical and administrative review of case files.
- Coordinate the regular review of discipline specific policies and procedures to ensure ongoing applicability of scientific methods to criminal and coroner case investigations. Prepare documentation for accreditation, surveillance visits, and audits, a
