**Summer Camp Leader**

Full-time, seasonal: 38.5 hrs/week, $20/hr
Reports to: Youth Programs Manager

**About Fort Calgary**:
The confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers has been a historical and cultural gathering place for time immemorial. From its origins as Mohkinsstsis (Blackfoot), Wîchîspa (Nakoda), and Guts’ists’i (Tsuut’ina), to its more recent history, Fort Calgary has a complex story to tell. As caretakers of a unique National Historic Site, Fort Calgary aims to present its history to connect people by deepening their understanding, enhancing their curiosity and informing their context for contemporary life.

**Position Overview**:
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Work collaboratively with team members to set up, deliver and clean up after camp programs.
- Ensure the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of campers.
- Plan, lead and modify camp programs and activities.
- Use strength-based language when communicating with campers.
- Support campers with diverse learning needs.
- Respond in a professional and calm manner when resolving camp issues.
- Actively supervise and engage with campers during before and after care, daily activities, and field trips.
- Communicate professionally with guardians about their child’s experience at camp.
- Assess and manage risk while supervising activities.
- React quickly and responsibly to emergency situations.
- Manage stressful situations calmly and effectively.
- Consistently follow program policies and procedures.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
- Have at least two years of experience supervising children in a formal or informal learning environment.
- Highly energetic, creative, and spontaneous, with contagious enthusiasm.
- Enjoy working with children aged 6-11 years old.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills.
- Current (or readiness to obtain) Level 1 Emergency First Aid & CPR Certificate.
- Knowledge and passion in areas of art, drama, science and/or local history is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Canadian settler-colonialism history and Indigenous relations is considered an asset.

**Availability Requirements**:

- This is an onsite position, with availability required Monday to Friday, June 24 - Aug. 26, 2024.
- Shifts will be within the hours of 7:45am - 5:15pm. Camp leaders will rotate their shifts to support these hours.
- Camp operates from 9 am - 4 pm, with before care from 8 - 9 am, and after care from 4 - 5 pm.
