Indigenous Student Engagement and Success Coach

**WHAT YOU BRING**:
Degree/Diploma in Social Services, Indigenous Studies/Services.
Familiarity with local Indigenous culture, tradition and language and a minimum of two (2) years experience working with Indigenous youth, their families and communities.
Experience in pathway planning with students/teaching in post secondary education is preferred.
Experience working with and supporting youth.
A valid driver’s license and the willingness and ability to travel for school board related business.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
**WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT**:
Assist the Indigenous Education Team with planning Indigenous student events/student voice initiatives.
Assist with the summer learning programs for Indigenous students.
As part of undertaking a needs assessment to identify barriers to student success, the Coach engages with students, parents/guardians, families and communities.
Build/maintain profiles for each individual student, utilizing the secondary school’s educational software resource throughout the year to track and monitor student achievement and well-being.
Assists the school and the Indigenous Education central team in the tracking of student data such as student attendance and achievement
Work with teachers, school staff, families, and communities, using existing school structures, to advocate for the needs of each learner;
Participate in Student Success Meetings at the school level upon request
Provide timely interventions that remove barriers to student well-being, engagement, and learning.
Will use Indigenous (First Nation, Metis, and Inuit) cultural knowledge to support educators to improve cultural sensitivity to improve their ability to serve Indigenous students
Build positive relationships with Indigenous students by identifying barriers and solutions to student learning, engagement, and well-being;
Facilitate student engagement in order to create trusting relationships between Indigenous students and their school community;
Facilitate access and referrals to community and school resources to provide integrated support for student achievement and well-being;
Works with community partners to establish opportunities for students
Act as an advocate and a role model for students in pathways planning related to graduation and successfully transitioning into post-secondary education, training or the labour market.
Will work with families and schools to ensure successful transitions for Indigenous students new to the school
This is a full-time position.
**HOURS**: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
**LOCATION**: Catholic Education Centre, Welland, ON
**SALARY RANGE**: $63,183.86 to $70,204.26 (based upon a 35hr week)
