**POSTION**:Summer Camp Instructor

**WHO WE ARE**:The Powell River Salmon Society (PRSS) is a charitable organization which has been running for over 40 years and focusses on salmon enhancement, education, and environmental monitoring. Coming up this summer, the PRSS will be piloting a new action-packed summer camp program, Coastal Ecology Summer Camp

Coastal Ecology Camp is a week-long day camp for kids ages 6-10 that focuses on nature exploration and the importance of salmon in the ecosystem. We encourage children to explore their environment and become curious about the ecosystems around them through exciting games, challenges, and hands-on activities

**SUMMARY**:Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Summer Camp Instructor will lead and be responsible for their group of 7 campers. They will collaborate on planning activities, facilitate their group’s daily activities, provide leadership and direction for their group, ensure the safety of their campers at all times, and maintain communication with parents and other staff members.

**LOCATION**:Alternating weeks between Willingdon Beach Park and the Alex Dobler Lang Creek Hatchery. Must have ability to get to and from camp locations on your own.

**HOURS**:8am-4pm

**DATES**:4 weeks throughout the summer: July 3-7, July 10-14, August 14-18, August 21-25.

Along with 2 paid training days at the end of June.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Lead groups of campers (max of 7 children per group) through nature themed activities and games
- Ability to provide a fun and safe learning environment for children
- Manage camper behaviour while establishing and implementing boundaries and camp rules in a calm, collected manner
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment where plans may change quickly and frequently
- Adequately prepare for the day with ideas on what games and activities to do within the daily theme (training on these activities/games provided)
- Run program rain or shine - comfortable no matter the weather
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, parents, and other staff

**IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE FAMILIARITY AND UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING**:

- Desire to work with children ages 6-10 years old
- Outdoor skills / willingness to learn
- Understand and practice clear, compassionate communication skills

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Applicant must have valid First Aid and CPR-C certification or be willing to obtain before camp begins
- Previous experience working with children is an asset
- Consent to a complete criminal record check

**YOU WILL**:

- Gain leadership experience
- Gain outdoor skills and experience from paid training sessions
- Work outdoors in the forest, along the creek, and by the ocean
- Inspire children to explore and gain confidence in the outdoors

**WAGE**:
$19-$21 per hour based on previous experience
