**Camp Counselor**

The Well is a Charity in Blind River Ontario, offering a Youth Center, Food Stability for the area, Community Events, and Programming for Children. We also have a Coffee Shop that functions as a fundraiser. We believe in building our community and offering new opportunities to children who have fewer opportunities, including a Summer Day Camp with Snacks, Games, Crafts, and Fun Bible Teaching. Our goal with our workers and volunteers is to create a community around purposeful giving. We have a fun working environment that welcomes our employees and volunteers to challenge themselves and learn new skills

Positions are Pending Funding from the Canada Summer Jobs Grant and will run for the months of July and August. The Pay rate is $15.50 an hour, and we typically are notified in April-May. Applicants must be between the ages 15-30 and return to school in the fall.

**Camp Counselor Job Responsibilities**:

- Plans, leads and implements camp programs for children.
- Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
- Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Values and works well on a team.
- Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
- Facilitates and creates lesson plans for daily activities.
- Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
- Ensures the site's cleanliness.
- Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that their meals/snacks are distributed.
- Mediates any campers’ disputes.
- Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.
- Maintains constant surveillance of the beach/water.

Shifts typically are Monday - Friday weekdays, 9-4 with a one-hour break, some flexibility with hours may be required periodically. Day Camp will take place at Granary Lake Retreat, however, there will be training and planning days at The Well. Counselors will be required to get to and from the campground and The Well and to bring their own lunch. Honorariums based on performance and certification will be awarded at the end of the contract. The Well will also invite staff to team building/recreational events outside work hours.

**Applicable Education and Experience**:

- Education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field
- Applicants must be between the ages of 15 - 30 and planning to go to school in the fall.
- First AID certification is an asset
- Lifeguard Certification is a Major Asset (bronze cross and above) - financial honorarium available.
- Ability to Clear a Police Check.
