**About Us**:
The role of the APS is to provide professional policy advice to government and to deliver a vast array of programs and services to meet the needs of Albertans. The APS is made up of over 27,000 government employees throughout the province. Each works for a ministry, or a public agency. They perform the legal, policy, administrative and practical duties needed to deliver programs and services to Albertans.

**Role**:
Working in a diverse and supportive environment, you will gain practical experience in important aspects of work for a variety of program, policy, or corporate teams.

Summer employment opportunities typically begin in May and conclude at the end of August. Students are hired for a period of two to four months. Students are offered temporary wage employment by a ministry or department with the opportunity to:

- develop valuable workplace skills
- gain career-related experience
- network with public sector employees
- learn about the Alberta Public Service

Students can gain experience in areas such as:

- accounting
- administrative support
- communications
- finance
- grounds keeping and maintenance
- human resources
- human services
- information technology
- natural resources (forestry, conservation and environmental science)
- research, policy
- tourism

**Qualifications**:
To be eligible for student summer employment, individuals must be:

- enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution
- returning to academic studies in September 2023
- students may be enrolled in part-time or full-time studies

**Salary**:
Salary varies based on the classification of the summer student opportunity. The hourly wage is paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Wage (casual) employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings, in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.

**Notes**:
Summer students are offered wage positions for a period of two to four months in duration. Number of hours of work per week are 36.25 hours.
