The IT Security Consultant is part of a team that is accountable for the implementation, maintenance and operation of IT Security services, infrastructure and policies, to meet both Agency internal requirements and those of Agency customers. The incumbent provides input and expertise on technical matters pertaining to security as well as helping to establish policy and guidelines for the Agency and its clients. The incumbent shall maintain a high level of awareness of current threats, tools, techniques and best practices in the field of information security, seeking out training. There is the responsibility to work with other team members on a project basis with projects related to the Agency’s client networks, MERLIN’s network services and consulting engagements.

Qualifications:

- A degree or diploma from a recognised post-secondary institution in Computer Science, Engineering, Networking or Information Technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience in IT Security may be considered.
- Deep understanding of topics related to Information Security i.e. penetration testing, hardening, monitoring and intrusion detection, policy crafting and incident response.
- Experience working with a variety of operating systems, networking environments and equipment such as firewalls, switches, and servers.
- Ability to perform self-directed learning relevant to the position and field.
- Ability to communicate with clients and manage client relationships with respect to Information Security.
- Experience in Network and or IT Hosted Services design, architecture and implementation.
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools.
- Understanding of computer networks, intrusion prevention, ITIL-based service process and investigative methodology.
- Excellent project management skills as well as the ability to deal confidentially with people at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructures across broad range of technologies.

**Duties**:
Reporting to the ICT Manager, some of the key duties of the Consultant, IT Security technologies are:

- The incumbent is responsible for independently and successfully executing projects with clients.
- The position provides expertise to the organization in relation to IT Security technologies.
- This position provides services that ensure organizational objectives are met, as well as the expectations of our many client organizations.
- This position is responsible for the care and maintenance of infrastructure that supports multiple services that MERLIN offers.
- These services have substantial impact on all levels of educational organizations in Manitoba.
