EMSL Canada, one of the largest environmental testing firms in North America, is currently seeking a full time **Laboratory Analyst II** specializing in Asbestos analysis for its Edmonton, AB laboratory location. **Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) and/or PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures.
Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material.
Record data in a specified manner.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment when needed.
Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual.

**Requirements**:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Science: Geology, Microbiology, Biology, Environmental Science, and/or Chemistry background.
Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petro-graphic microscope training a plus.
Two to Three years of asbestos PLM/PCM experience and/or environmental testing sample preparation and analysis.
Must be able to work independently and with a team.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments.
Must have good communication, computer, typing, and organizational skills.

**Available Shift**:
Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

**Les responsabilités comprennent, sans s’y limiter**:
Préparation et analyse de matériaux en vrac et solides pour la teneur en amiante à l’aide de PLM (microscopie à lumière polarisée) et/ou PCM (microscopie à contraste de phase), et toutes les procédures auxiliaires de contrôle de la qualité.
Détermination du pourcentage visuel et des propriétés optiques de l’amiante et des matériaux non amiantés.
Enregistrez les données d’une manière spécifiée.
Certains travaux de bureau peuvent être impliqués, y compris la connexion et la saisie de données, la numérisation et l’envoi de rapports par courriel et la réponse au téléphone.
Entretenir et dépanner l’équipement au besoin.
Appliquer les pratiques de contrôle de la qualité conformément au manuel d’assurance et de contrôle de la qualité de l’entreprise.

**Exigences**:
Baccalauréat en sciences de la vie : géologie, microbiologie, biologie, sciences de l’environnement et/ou chimie.
Microscopie optique, minéralogie optique/microscope pétrographique un plus.
Deux à trois ans d’expérience dans le PLM/PCM de l’amiante et/ou les tests environnementaux, la préparation et l’analyse d’échantillons.
Doit être capable de travailler de manière autonome et en équipe.
Doit être capable de travailler dans un environnement au rythme rapide, d’effectuer plusieurs tâches à la fois et de hiérarchiser les tâches.
Doit avoir de bonnes compétences en communication, en informatique, en dactylographie et en organisation.
