**Global Banking and Markets**
Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.
**Purpose**
The Analyst plays a key role in management of the specialized securities operations for the Settlements requirements of the Scotia Group. This position, responsible for assisting management in their efforts to coach individuals, coordinate workflows, measure and enhance employee engagement as well as the daily evaluation of team performance. The incumbent is expected to actively encourage the use of the daily huddle as a mechanism to create a shared understanding within the team and provide input in the establishment of benchmarks and targets to facilitate operational efficiency and to create a culture of continuous improvement.
**Accountabilities**
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required for this role as well as good people management, leadership and coaching ability.
- Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills are necessary as well as a good knowledge of the Bank’s operational and compliance policies, practices and procedures. Industry standards and infrastructure rules and regulations in relation to North American settlements are also required.
- Must be conversant and have a strong grasp of principles for the operating / settlement systems used by the unit including: BTS (061&191), Impact, Clearance Pro, Escape, Arrow, Arrow Blotters, CDS, DTC and FED.
- Must possess in-depth knowledge of all Bank policies, regulatory requirements, limits and controls which may affect or restrict all aspects of the day-to-day responsibilities for the unit.
- Ability to provide reliable and timely responses confidently to direct inquiries from customers, traders/sales personnel & management.
- Ability to effectively delegate, team build and provide coaching and feedback;
- Sound appreciation of the risks inherent in the unit;
- Ability to manage in a rapidly changing environment regarding policies, procedures, automated systems and client needs.
**Working conditions**
- The securities industry is a complex business operating within a rapidly evolving environment. The incumbent may face stressful situations due to rapid changes and multiple high priority issues. Due to the nature of the business, situations demanding immediate attention can arise at any time, adding further stress.
- Work volumes fluctuate significantly due to market conditions. Critical deadlines and accurate processing must be met daily to avoid the risk of substantial losses. Pressure situations occur daily.
- The incumbent faces frequent interruptions from staff and customers. In addition, high value transactions, unpredictable volumes and time constraints can create pressure situations.
