- The Centralized Operation of Research Equipment & Support (CORES) assists the research community by providing valuable services, such as access to research equipment and technical expertise.

**Job Summary**
- Reporting to Histology CORE manager and Chief Technologist for the Electron Microscope CORE, the Centralized Operation of Research Equipment & Support Technician will provide technical support to the CORES facility, with a dual split appointment in the Histology and Electron Microscopy CORES. The Histology CORE offers a wide range of traditional and advanced histo-technology and digital pathology services. The Electron Microscopy CORE offers access to Electron Microscopes that produce high resolution details by using electrons instead of light to capture images.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Maintain and clean equipment as well as prepare solutions.
- Process/embed tissue samples and prepare samples for the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
- Histology staining (e.g., H&E).
- Help researchers view their samples on the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microsope (SEM).
- Optimize microscope optics for successful viewing of samples (i.e., Focusing, magnification, illumination).
- Prepare chemicals required for sample preparation (fixatives, buffers, stains, etc.).

**Note**
- Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in biological or medical science with at least 1 year of laboratory experience.
- Basic laboratory and computer skills.
- Comfortable working in a lab setting with toxic chemicals.
- Ability to follow protocols and adhere to strict instrument guidelines and safety procedures.
- Ability to work on multiple projects, with varying research deadlines.
- Possess basic knowledge of cell biology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as good interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools.

**Assets**
- Laboratory experience outside undergraduate programs.
- Familiarity with histology, image analysis and/or electron microscopy.
