**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Assists in the training and orientation of new staff; particularly our Indigenous Interpreters;
- Delegates work assignments while supervising staff and volunteers who provide interpretive services for Park guests
- Arranges for emergency and lunch relief as required;
- Prepares interpretive sites - in particular the tipi village and Metis exhibits;
- Procuring, preparing, organizing and distributing objects and supplies for program use; with a focus on the tipi village and Metis programmed sites;
- May rotate through a series of exhibits, providing breaks for Interpreters and delivering interpretive programs in their absence;
- Works with the Interpretation team in determining objectives and assessing the performance of interpretive staff and volunteers;
- Ensures exhibit areas are operated in accordance with prescribed standards of safety, security and cleanliness, completing maintenance request forms as required;
- Assists with special programs upon request;
- Provides knowledge and guidance of Indigenous cultures (in particular First Nations of Treaty 7 and/or Metis Nation 3) to act as a resource for our interpreters;
- Provides service and/or information to guests;
- Performs other duties as required

**Job Requirements**:

- Demonstrated background and knowledge in working with Indigenous peoples & Indigenous culture is required;
- High School diploma plus some post-secondary education in related areas (western Canadian history, historical interpretation, communications);
- A combination of historical/cultural knowledge, communication skills and supervisory skills will be considered;
- Experience as an Exhibit Interpreter at Heritage Park is preferred;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered;
- Traditional Indigenous cultural skills considered an asset;
- Demonstrated responsible leadership skills and the ability to approach tasks independently;
- Strong organizational, supervisory and communication skills;
- Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment;
- Mature judgement and respect towards others with a constant attention for safety and security concerns.

**Special Working Conditions**:

- This position may be required to stand or walk for long periods of time and may be exposed to extreme temperatures depending on the weather;
- There may be prolonged exposure to woodsmoke;
- Exposure to wood smoke for extended periods of time;
- The appropriate costume will be provided by the Costuming Department to be work when providing interpretation in an exhibit.

**Hours of Work**:

- Commitment to five days per week for the summer (includes weekends) plus weekends during fall; hours of work vary.
