Job Description: Baker & Pastry Chef

Position: Baker Department: Bakery

The Baker is responsible for producing high-quality baked goods in accordance with established recipes, standards, and timelines. This role requires a passion for baking, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining consistency and quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Baking Operations:

- Prepare and bake a variety of baked goods, including bread, pastries, cakes, and other specialty items, following established recipes, procedures, and quality standards.
- Measure and mix ingredients accurately, ensuring proper consistency, texture, and taste.
- Monitor baking process, adjusting oven temperatures, baking times, and other variables as needed.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations during all stages of preparation and baking.

Recipe Development and Testing:

- Assist in the development and refinement of new recipes, considering customer preferences, dietary restrictions, and market trends.
- Conduct tests and trials to evaluate the quality, taste, and appearance of new or modified recipes.

Inventory and Supplies Management:

- Monitor inventory levels of baking ingredients and supplies, and notify the supervisor of any shortages or needs.
- Assist in placing orders and maintaining proper stock levels to support daily production.

Quality Control:

- Inspect baked goods for quality, appearance, and taste, ensuring they meet the bakery's standards.
- Take corrective actions as necessary to maintain consistent quality.

Bakery Equipment and Maintenance:

- Operate and maintain bakery equipment, such as mixers, ovens, dough sheeters, and proofing machines, following proper safety and maintenance procedures.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor.

Cleanliness and Sanitation:

- Follow proper sanitation and cleaning practices to maintain a clean and safe baking environment.
- Clean workstations, equipment, utensils, and baking tools regularly and as required.

Collaboration and Communication:

- Coordinate with other bakery staff to ensure efficient production and timely completion of orders.
- Communicate any challenges, concerns, or suggestions to the supervisor or bakery team.

Food Safety and Compliance:

- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations, including proper handling, storage, labeling, and disposal of ingredients and finished products.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant health and safety standards and implement best practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Proven experience as a baker or relevant baking certification.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Creativity a must
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently produce high-quality baked goods.
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent product quality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production schedules.
- Creativity and willingness to contribute to recipe development and innovation.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 40 per week

**Salary**: $18.00-$25.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Red Deer, AB T4N 4R7: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- Baking: 2 years (required)

- Day Shift (preferred)
