**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**:
As an afternoon-shift Operations Supervisor, you will utilize your organizational skills to supervise, monitor, schedule, and coordinate permanent and casual afternoon-shift custodial staff in the schools and administrative offices. With a team-oriented approach, you will leverage your current knowledge of best practices, compliance issues, and relevant legislation to work collaboratively with the day-shift Operations Supervisor. Critical to this role is a solid working knowledge of health and safety legislation related to the work of custodial services. You will also have the opportunity to participate on various projects in coordination with the Manager of Facility Services and Maintenance Supervisors. **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Responsible for the organization and direction of all school custodial operations. Organizes and facilitates orientation, training and professional development related to school operations in order that all board facilities maintain a high standard of cleanliness and security. Establishes and monitors system standards for cleanliness throughout the Board, prepares and updates procedure manuals for system use. Inspects all schools on a regular basis to ensure that the physical structures provide a clean, safe and desirable condition for learning.

Ensures compliance with the Custodial Policies, Procedures and Health & Safety Requirements. Drafts procedures and processes relating to the activities of custodial staff and contractors and makes recommendations to the Manager of Facility Services.

Prepares and administers budgets for custodial supplies and equipment; tracks costs, and forecasts future needs to prepare accurate budget; monitors and approves expenditures; purchases and maintains an adequate inventory of custodial supplies and equipment; researches data regarding custodial materials/equipment and services to ensure that they are effective and non-hazardous; brings in suppliers for product demonstrations as required.

Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding appropriate staffing complement of school custodians. Upon request, provides advice to Principals and custodians to support high standards of cleanliness and maintenance. Supports the principals in performance appraisals and reports on employee performance.

Coordinates the deployment of centrally assigned custodial positions, supply custodial staff and summer students. Coordinates vacation schedules and manages attendance.

Conducts probationary appraisals and performance appraisals in accordance with established guidelines. Assists in setting goals and monitors progress. Reviews current job descriptions and if necessary investigates and recommends discipline in accordance with established guidelines.

Co-ordinates, documents, and co-ordinates safety inspections on Board Equipment (eg. Playground and gymnasium). Acts as a liaison between administration and parents.

Administers the Board’s designated substances (e.g. asbestos) plans and responds to staff concerns. Coordinates activities related to designated substance management; ensures that all designated substances present in facilities are identified, implements a plan for abatement and control, establishes procedures to limit exposure and communicates the safety precautions.
