**About Us**:
The Public Safety Division provides strategic leadership to the ministry on matters impacting public safety and the well-being of Ontario communities. It is done through the operation of the External Relations Branch, Criminal Intelligence Services Ontario, the Private Security and Investigative Service Branch and the Centre of Forensic Sciences.

Ontario's Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS) conducts scientific investigations in cases involving injury or death for crimes against persons or property. We will drive innovation across the organization and deliver forensic science services that anticipate the needs of public safety. Highly specialized forensic examination and analysis are conducted in Biology, Chemistry, Firearms and Toolkits, and Documents and Toxicology.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: As a Systems Officer, you will:

- provide technical expertise to end-users in the planning, maintenance, and deployment of releases and upgrades of major IT hardware and software systems
- ensure the integrity and stability of electronic information and support information management and analysis
- provide technical expertise in the maintenance of business systems (e.g. Laboratory Information Management Systems) and other in-production information technology systems
- provide technical services for the development and configuration of digitized solutions
- provide database administration (i.e. development, implementation, performance) and with coordinating server and network changes to the production environments

**How do I qualify?**:
**Technical Knowledge and Skills**: You have knowledge of:

- knowledge of information technology and the systems development life cycle, computer programming techniques, systems development and integration, Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), relational databases, and Internet software packages
- current and emerging hardware and software products and peripheral equipment
- analysis to evaluate systems needs and the impact of various options on existing service delivery
- knowledge and understanding of multiple PC platform tools, including Adobe Professional, Microsoft Visual Studio, MS Office Suite, SQL Server, FOXPRO, ACCESS, DBASE,.NET and query/report writers such as Crystal Reports

**Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills**:

- You have the ability to identify requirements for clients with highly technical information technology requirements
- You can assess technical design problems and develop computerized solutions to information problems
- You can identify and resolve problems that have an impact on the information technology infrastructure and diagnose and resolve complex end-user operational problems (hardware and software)
- You can conduct cost benefit analyses in support of acquisition recommendations
- You can interpret guidelines and procedures for end users

**Communication and Interpersonal Skills**: You can:

- discuss client requirements; lead discussion of technology acquisition options and technical processes and recommended solution
- provide troubleshooting to customer sites and colleagues
- prepare cost benefit analyses, project reports; explain analyses/recommendations; develop policies and operations guidelines
- establish effective working relationships with staff and be able to communicate advice
