The Family Enhancement Facilitator (FEF) provides new parent supports and guidance for young parents, with the long-term goal being to role model and teach the skills and knowledge needed to be a successful, independent and stronger individual and parent.
*This position is inclusive of all duties listed on this job description, and the job description of the Independent Living Transition Facilitator so long as both job descriptions are signed by the incumbent.*

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Conducts home visits to individuals/families who are expecting a baby or are new parents;
- Assesses family dynamics, assists with problem solving, and provides individualized supports, education and guidance;
- Teaches and role models vital parenting and life skills to promote a safe and nurturing family environment including newborn care, healthy eating habits and meal preparation, budgeting, house chores and cleaning, etc.;
- Teaches and assists with grocery shopping, healthy meal planning and food preparation;
- Identifies, assesses and immediately reports any safety or abuse concerns;
- Provides creative and hands-on learning opportunities;
- Facilitates access to existing new parent supports and navigate available resources in the community;
- Transports and accompanies young parent on outings such as appointments, shopping, and leisure activities;
- Builds positive relationships and rapport with young parent, helping to identify personal strengths to promote growth, self-worth, and a sense of belonging;
- Reinforces conflict resolution, positive communication, and household respect through positive reinforcement and supportive listening;
- Attends staff meetings, treatment conferences, and training as required.
- Implements strategies such as planned daily activities, coordinated treatment interventions, structured environments, and organized recreational and social activities;

**Qualifications**:

- Experience providing physical, psychological, and social support to at-risk youth or other vulnerable populations is required;
- Must be familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children and youth;
- Certificate/diploma in Child & Youth Care, or applicable post-secondary education (i.e. social work, psychology, counselling, etc.) is preferred;
- Valid First Aid/CPR is required;
- Mental health/crisis training certifications including NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) and/or ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills) would be considered an asset;
- Demonstrated knowledge and confidence in teaching, role modeling and providing hands-on child care practices including but not limited to bathing, diapering, feeding, etc.;
- Valid class 5 driver’s license, and satisfactory driver’s abstract;
- Access to a reliable vehicle is required;
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks;
- Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks;
- Comprehensive knowledge of children/youth services and resources available in the community;
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, or willingness to learn, including participating in cultural practices, programming and ceremonies alongside youth;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Flexibility and creativity to identify and adopt new ways to do things;
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision;
- Proficient computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software.
