**Position overview**

This collaborative role is critical in driving and maintaining a safe operating environment at YVR through oversight and leadership of the Safety Management Systems (SMS) Program in support of the Operational
teams. This work includes a heavy focus on Aviation SMS as this program is a key part of maintaining not only safety, but the Airport Authority’s Aerodrome Operating Certificate (our license to operate as an airport). Come join our team

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Daily analysis, monitoring and reporting of SMS reports which assess how YVR is moving aircraft, customers, and bags safely, securely, and efficiently through the airport.
- Identify trends, advise root causes, recommend mitigations, and communicate them to executive and management teams or accountable managers to drive decisions on safety and hazard improvements
- Collaborate with Nav Canada, Transport Canada and other agencies working on safety issues and incidents that can influence the airport's current and future business operations.
- Lead discussions with airside management team to ensure Airside Risk Dashboard is appropriately maintained, new risks are reported to Director of Airside operations and Sponsoring Executive, and actions related to the areas identified as risky are progressing toward their desired outcome.
- Develop safety content and training modules, and deliver them to internal SMS user groups and 2nd party contractors (i.e. Wildlife and Airside Escorts) as well as conduct periodical Quality Assurance review of SMS documentation against SMS CARs Regulations (AOM) to ensure we meet our regulatory obligations and maintain a drive to best practices.
- Conduct investigation into safety event/incident findings, including noncompliance events - this includes confidential and sensitive events.

**Key qualifications include**:

- At least 4 years of recent related experience supplemented by a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Operations/Planning or a related field.
- Excellent knowledge of the aviation industry, airport operational processes, customer care, aviation security and public safety.
- Strong understanding and experience in Safety Management System and methodology to mitigate unsafe conditions.
- Proven ability to work and make decisions in a complex, technical environment with mínimal supervision including ability to determine framework required to establish Operations Centre KPIs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical, risk management and project management skills.

**Salary Range **:$72,008 to $94,115 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
