**Job Summary**
The Health and Safety Training Specialist promotes and enhances true Safety Culture at Whiteshell (WL). The WL Health & Safety Services (HSS) Branch has the lead responsibility for delivering an effective Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) program at the WL Site. The principal customers of HSS are all WL Divisions (employees and line managers) in the WL Closure Project. Other customers and stakeholders include Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).
The Health and Safety Training Specialist is responsible for providing diversified support by delivering, developing, maintaining, and evaluating our current training material of Occupational Health and Safety nature and activities within the Canadian Nuclear Laboratory (CNL) organization. This role will participate in training development activities with regards to Occupational Health and Safety content.
The Health and Safety Training Specialist performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, standards, policies and procedures (e.g., utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). The Health and Safety Training Specialist notifies their manager or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.
**What we are looking for**
- Education
- Occupational Health and Safety Professional Certificate recognized for CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation or equivalent.
- University degree or College diploma in, Training Development and/or Education, or relevant technical field is preferred, plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience with at least one (1) of those years in a direct training role either in facilitating and/or developing.
- Professional designation or certification in training (CTDP, CTP, CTT+, etc.) considered an asset.
- Experience
- Minimum of Seven (7) years of relevant safety experience in construction/demolition environments involving heavy equipment.
- Advanced industrial hygiene knowledge in areas such as Asbestos, Silica, hazardous chemicals/WHMIS, noise, heat-stress, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C). Experience with development and facilitation of both in-person and remote learning.
- Experience with the content development of training materials of multiple mediums such as PowerPoints, Training Manuals, Quick Reference Guides, etc.
- Experience in the development of online learning formats such as tutorial videos, e-Learning content and wiki’s.
- Proven proficiency with Microsoft tools such as PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.
- Experience using content development tools such as Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity, Canva, etc. considered an asset.
**What will you be doing**
Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Facilitate safety and health related workshops across a broad range of programs to provide guidance and enable training solutions to complex issues.
- Develop and delivers effective and efficient safety training, either directly to employees, or to line supervision so they can instruct their own employees.
- Design and develop course content that addresses identified training gaps, while providing a positive learning experience for learners.
- Assist the Manager and Section Head, Health & Safety Services in the implementation of the Occupational Health & Safety Program, specifically in operational safety and industrial hygiene.
- Provide specialist support to line managers, workers, contractors, to help ensure that management’s responsibilities related to occupational safety and industrial hygiene are fulfilled.

- Provide industrial safety expertise for operational and demolition activities.
- Develop hazard identification and mitigation techniques for operations and work control.
- Characterize the site hazards, develop inventories as per regulations and site procedures.
- Maintain worker exposure inventories, and support the health center in performing hearing testing and scheduling medical baselines.
- Perform monitoring for worker exposures to occupational safety and industrial hygiene hazards as required.
- Review and assist with work being planned and performed for contractors to ensure compliance with all company and government regulations, to ensure consistent approaches to work onsite.
