A_ Recreational Facilitator - Deaf and Hard of Hearing._ Reporting directly to the Supervisor, the individual is responsible for the development, implementation, and review of Manitoba Possible’ s recreation and leisure programs for Deaf and hard of hearing children, youth, and adults. This will include but is not limited to Manitoba Possible’s summer camp programs, and fall, winter, and spring programs. It will involve both group and individual programming that enhances the accessibility and independence for Deaf and hard of hearing participants.

The Recreational Facilitator is also responsible for the day-to-day direction of Recreation Assistants, Summer Access Workers, and Volunteers.

This position is full time from June 1 - August 31, and 36 hours per pay period (every two weeks) from September 1 to May 31.

**Your Role**
- Work in conjunction with Supervisor, Recreation and Leisure to develop and implement current and future programming.
- Facilitate and evaluate children and youth summer camp programming for children who are Deaf or hard of hearing, as well as for Deaf or hard of hearing children, youth and adult programming during the fall, winter, and spring. This includes but is not limited to, monthly events, hive climbing, virtual programming and needs based programs. It will involve both group and individual programming.
- Assess the abilities, needs and potential of Deaf and hard of hearing children, youth, and adults in terms of personal growth, leisure/life skills, self-advocacy, etc. so that will enhance their ability to live independently within the community.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of Manitoba Possible’s summer staff training. This includes but is not limited to coordinating and leading training sessions and providing a workshop on Deaf culture and basic American Sign Language.
- Provide leadership and direction to referring agents/service providers and clients in personal growth, and leisure/life skills program opportunities that are available through Manitoba Possible or the community at large.
- Ensure Deaf and Hard of Hearing Recreation and Leisure programs are known to the community at large.
- Establish a network of community resources of programs/services available to Deaf and hard of hearing children, youth, and adults that fall within the goals of the program and to continually update knowledge of resources.
- Regularly responsible for direct support to clients with varying degrees of complexity in Activities of Daily Living. Activities of Daily Living may include but are not limited to helping someone dress, eating and drinking, using the washroom, managing personal hygiene/health etc.
- Assist Supervisor, Recreation and Leisure and Human Resources with staff recruitment.
- Assist Supervisor, Recreation and Leisure with other recreation program planning and delivery as needed (i.e., Adult Rec, Children’s Rec).
- Responsible for assisting with client transportation requirements as needed.
- Keep accurate and up to date records and client files. Compile all program stats.
- Responsible for preparing cash receipts, deposits and invoicing.
- Represent Deaf and Hard of Hearing Recreation and Leisure Services and Manitoba Possible when required at special events, forums, etc.
- Meet on a regular basis with the Supervisor of Recreation and Leisure at designated times to discuss activities of the position, challenges/issues that may arise, professional needs, evaluation, etc.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Participate in professional development activities as required.
- Adhere to the Manitoba Possible’s policies and procedures.

**What You Know**
- University degree in Recreation Studies or related field. However, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Extensive knowledge of program planning in recreation with an emphasis on programming for individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
- Ability to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL), knowledge of Deaf culture.
- Excellent communication skills with sensitivity to diversity.
- Deals effectively with all races, nationalities, cultures, disabilities, ages, and both sexes; supports equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all.
- Experience with and willing to assist clients with varying degrees of complexity in activities of daily living as needed. Activities of daily living include helping someone dress, eat and drink, use the washroom and manage personal hygiene and health, transfer to and from a wheelchair, and to walk or move from place to place using a wheelchair or other equipment
