To help fulfill its mission, LOFT is hiring a Relief **Peer Support Worker.
**Job Summary**:
A Peer Support Worker is someone who through their lived experience of recovery from a mental health, or addiction or homelessness challenge and is able to draw upon their wellness and recovery in providing intentional peer support. This would be accomplished through a variety of activities such as peer education and mentorship, peer navigation and group facilitation, individual support and structured positive relationship-building.**_*Note:_**_ _Staff may be required to work in the community or client’s home and may therefore be exposed to second hand smoke.**What You Will Do**:

- Provide 1:1 peer support to youth such as appointment support/accompaniment, participation in wellness-focused and recreational activities, and search for appropriate community resources such as housing
- Support the personal journey of each client by building rapport and a safe and effective helping relationship
- Support participants in making choices that promote safety, wellness and recovery
- Assist in the delivery of social drop-in and community outreach activities
- Complete needed documentation and note-taking
- Regularly attend project and team meetings
- Positively contribute to the TAY program by providing back-up support for other staff and by engaging in collaborative team activities.

**What You Bring**:

- Completion of Peer Support training is an asset
- Personal experience in recovery from a mental health or homelessness and/or substance use challenge, and ability to draw upon wellness and recovery in providing intentional peer support is an asset
- Knowledge of relevant mental health legislation such as the Personal Health Information Protection Act
- Knowledge of local community mental health services and other resources, including formal and informal supports
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and group facilitation skills
- Strong computer skills
- Understanding of cultural competency and anti-oppression framework
- Reflective of a multi-barriered group, as serviced by the program, is a strong asset
