Position Description:


This part-time contract position as
Peer Support Worker is with the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) program's Lotus Health team.

Lotus Health is a multidisciplinary health and advocacy program for children and youth impacted by commercial sexual exploitation/trafficking.

Lotus Health provides a range of trauma-informed medical and psychosocial services and works closely with community partners, including child welfare, police, and other support services.


Here's what you'll get to do:

  • Provide mentorship, support, education, skill development, and practical assistance to children and youth who have experienced or may be at risk of experiencing commercial sexual exploitation/trafficking. This may be achieved through a variety of modalities including individual and group work, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, consultation, case management, community outreach, advocacy, and prevention work.
  • Work from a healingfocused, traumainformed, strengthsbased, developmentallysensitive, antiracist, antioppressive perspective.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the multidisciplinary health care team and community agencies to devise responsive plans of care.
  • Practice in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of continuous quality improvement and evidenceinformed practice.
  • Participate in case review meetings, program development, and professional development activities.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Completion of postsecondary education (degree/diploma/certificate) in a social services or health sciences related field.

Past lived experience with commercial sexual exploitation/trafficking. A minimum of three years in recovery/healing process is encouraged.

  • Lived experience with a systemically oppressed or marginalized identity.
  • Understanding of the principles of traumainformed care and the dynamics of human trafficking, including commercial sexual exploitation of children and youth.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health, and addictions.
  • Experience working with children, youth, and their families is an asset.
  • Welldeveloped strengths in advocacy and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a nonjudgmental attitude.
  • Commitment to antioppressive practice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of health care services.
  • Awareness of the local network of antihuman trafficking services, community resources, and relevant systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a member of the health care team.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, time management, and problemsolving skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of electronic platforms such as Microsoft Office and other relevant technology.
  • Flexibility to work into the early evening one day per week.
  • Ability to travel offsite to accompany clients to appointments in the community (no car or driver's license required).

Employment Type:0.2 FTE (1 day per week) 6 month contract (with possibility of renewal)
