As a Toolmaker within the Innovation team, you will develop world-class mechatronic products and technologies for sophisticated automation equipment. We are looking for a creative individual, an out of the box thinker who still has practical grounding. Someone who can grasp the fundamentals of a problem and solve the problem in effective and innovative ways.

Duties include generating new concepts, designing, building, and testing prototypes, finalizing POP designs and assisting in the transfer of new innovations to apps, sales and production. These products require a strong combination of mechanical aptitude, creativity, resourcefulness, and leadership. The primary focus of this role is Mechanical Assembly, but solutions require a multi-disciplinary approach.

This position will contribute to new and next generation products and other industry leading mechatronic technologies. The Innovation Center is an exciting venture developing state of the art technologies within a large, industry-leading, global automation supplier.

**General Experience**
- Proficient at creating high performance, robust rapid prototypes and proof of principle assemblies.
- Knowledge of drafting principles, interest, and ability to utilize SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Able to deal with high unknowns up front as challenges are often being solved for the first time.
- Adapt quickly to new learnings from prototypes and incorporate findings into designs.
- Team player able to communicate effectively in status meetings, perform design reviews, and contribute to solving challenging problems.

**Responsibilities**
- Generate concepts to solve new customer mechatronic problems/needs.
- Contribute to designs for prototypes, while supporting operations in the build of prototypes.
- Contribute to test plans for prototypes and either execute the test plan or support others that are performing the test plan.
- Analyze test results, mitigate risks and resolve the unknowns. Get agreement on final designs both internally and with customers.
- Lead mechanical assembly support during the duration of debug/integration.
- Ensure that all print updates are being completed and submitted to engineering.
- Support Sales and Operations during the transfer to production of new products/innovations.
- Work with the Manager and Project Leader to be a positive, motivating force within the team.
- Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.

**Qualifications**
- A minimum 3+ years’ Assembly experience in an industrial automation environment.
- Requires a practical working knowledge of the operation of all toolroom equipment.
- Proficient in leveraging 3D CAD for mechanical assembly, preferably SolidWorks.
- Strong ability to conceptualize and create solutions for complex design requirements.
- A strong knowledge of common machine shop techniques.
- Capability in these areas is an asset: materials, precision, GD&T
- Familiarity in these areas is an asset: control systems, electrical designs, electronics, magnetics.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with mínimal supervision.
- Must be able to lead/run small to medium Proof of principle projects

**Education**
- A Certificate of Qualification as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator or Tool and Die Maker or equivalent.
