House Parent, Respite

This is an exciting job opportunity for a couple who seeks to help families in our community maintain a healthy family life, working for ConnectWell Community Health. The Respite Home House Parent offers short term respite to children with special needs allowing their caregivers time to rest. This is a seven-day rotation in a beautiful fully equipped home located outside Smiths Falls. The home offers respite to a maximum of 12 overnight stays per week. The expectation is that one parent is available for this full time position during the rotation while the second parent can be engaged in alternative work outside the home during the day, assisting only on evenings and weekends. The benefits include four weeks’ vacation which allows for extensive time off. Training is available and ongoing. This is a _very _rewarding position and often the house parents are regarded as additional family members to the children they support.
**Qualifications**:
- Diploma or Degree in one of the Social Sciences, or extensive experience working with children and youth.
- Extensive experience in working with developmental, physically disabled persons and/or persons with behavior/mental health needs.
- Experience in children’s residential care and program development.
- Understanding and experience in developing budgets (related to individual clients).
- Knowledge of programs and services important to the quality of life of physically and/or developmentally handicapped persons.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of rural issues and rural communities.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in managing a household.
- Provide personal tasks as required for individuals being supported.
- Implement individualized goals and objectives including medical & behavior protocols.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
