JOB SUMMARY:
The Regional Paediatric Program will be established to provide support for the care and management of

paediatric patients at regional acute care hospitals across Northwestern Ontario. The program will provide

regional hospital staff with access to a paediatric specialty nurse who can provide them with education and

tools to support them in the provision of local paediatric service delivery.

Under the direction of the Women and Children’s Program Director, the Program Lead, Regional Paediatric

Program, is responsible for developing and implementing a program to support regional providers in the care

and management of paediatric patients. Using advanced and expert knowledge, skills and abilities, the

Regional Paediatric Program Lead will build partnerships with regional hospitals working collaboratively to

develop supports and education that meet identified needs and promotes best practices.

The Lead will be responsible to plan, implement and evaluate needs‑based continuing education for regional

nursing and allied health professionals in collaboration with Women & Children’s Program Leadership, Chief of

Paediatrics, regional leadership and other key stakeholders. The Lead will utilize their extensive knowledge

base and experience to support nursing and allied health professionals in decision‑making and applying

knowledge into practice. They will assist in skill development, including clinical, problem solving and critical

thinking. Key deliverables will be monitored through ongoing program evaluation with the opportunity to

implement additional quality initiatives and/or program expansion.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Expert

1. Demonstrates expert knowledge and synthesis of expert nursing practice within the clinical paediatrics

specialty

2. Demonstrates knowledge grounded in nursing theory, professional standards, competencies and critical

thinking.

3. Utilizes various approaches and tools to evaluate patient care and program delivery.

4. Acts as a clinical expert/resource/consultant to nurses and allied health professionals to establish,

maintain and improve patient care delivery in regional hospitals, as well as internally (Paediatrics,

Critical Care and Emergency Department).

5. Utilizes extensive knowledge base and experience to support staff in decision‑making and applying

knowledge into practice to promote clinical confidence.

6. Demonstrate expert skills in formal and informal consultation with nursing, physicians and allied health

professionals

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
*Unencumbered registration holding a current license with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered

Nurse

*Baccalaureate degree in Nursing

*Paediatric clinical experience is required (5 years minimum)

*Clinical leadership experience is preferred (3 years minimum)

*Other clinical experience would be an asset

Skills/Abilities:
*Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills to support, coach, direct, mentor and teach activities to

clinical staff and to promote positive staff relations

*Demonstrated strong communication skills both oral and written

*Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to interact effectively with staff,

patients, family supports and community partners

*Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and within a team setting

*Demonstrated high level of self‑initiative and direction

*Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Patient & Family Centered Care

*Demonstrated commitment to professional practice and contribution to professional

workplace/environment

Salary Range: $43.546 to 51.230
