**PROGRAM SUMMARY**
The Region of Peel has become one of the largest reception centres for newcomers to Canada with fully half of its population from outside of Canada. With over ninety-three distinct ethnic groups represented, Peel is now more racially diverse than either the City of Toronto or Ontario. In 2006, 48.4% of the Regional population was comprised of immigrants. The 5 most common visible minority groups in Peel, by size in 2006, were: South Asian, Black, Chinese, Filipino, and Latin American. South Asians formed the single largest group, representing 51.3% of all visible minorities.
In response to the growing needs of Peel’s diversity, DCGT’s services include multilingual TeleCheck for seniors, and distress lines for crisis/suicide assessment and intervention. These services are provided in Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese. Primarily callers reach out to us because they are facing settlement, relocating, cultural and integration issues. All lines are answered by dedicated non-judgemental staff and volunteers who are proficient in the languages listed.
**MAIN FUNCTIONS**
The Program Coordinator provides coordination of the day-to-day program. The Coordinator works with Manager, Outbound Programs and Language Lines, to ensure the program(s) development and growth according to the strategic and operational plan(s).
The main deliverables include:
- Human Resources Performance - to get the best possible performance from the people that work for the organization (paid & unpaid), and to create a workplace of excellence.
- Program Performance - to get the best possible outcomes from the programs and services that we provide to the public.
**REPORTS TO**
Manager, Outbound and Language Lines
**RESPONSIBLITIES**
- Multilingual Programs (Inbound Language Line, TeleCheck and Touching Base)_
- Coordinates the Spanish and Portuguese program, as directed via the organization’s strategic and operational plan(s)
- Case management and advocacy (incl. client registration/intake/discharge)
- Corresponds with and responds to inquiries from clients, family members, community partners, funders, the general public, etc., as required
- Being aware of relevant and evolving community resources
- Will make and receive calls daily as required, (i.e. medication reminders, check-ins, social)
- Participates in the supervision and recognition of volunteers as per a decentralized volunteer resources model: ensuring policies and procedures are followed, participating in volunteer recognition, supervision, scheduling, evaluation and screening.
- Participates in program initiatives as required
- Reporting and Evaluation_
- Ensures the iCarol database and any relevant excel spreadsheets are updated on a regular basis with new/current/terminated client/caller information, and shares/highlights any pertinent information to staff
- Provides monthly reports and statistics to the Manager based on negotiated schema
- Evaluates program(s) and services, and identifies areas for improvement
- Public Awareness and Education_
- Promotes DCGT program(s) and services in the community (i.e. participates in events, fairs, presents, distributes materials, etc.)
- Participates in outreach as appropriate for the Spanish and Portuguese community
- Volunteer Resources_
- Assists with volunteer interviewing and screening for all of DCGT
- Facilitates at minimum one session per training cycle in addition to completing volunteer evaluations
- Supervises interns/students as assigned, including students for English programs
- Other_
- Ensures the policies and procedures of DCGT are adhered to at all times
- Participates with various projects throughout the year as assigned (i.e. Annual General Meeting, Volunteer Recognition, Special Events, fund-development, etc.)
- Required to communicate and relate to others in the workplace in a positive, open, honest and respectful manner
- Performs any other duties as assigned/directed
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
Work weeks are Monday to Friday, with the program running from 10 am to 10 pm. The Coordinator is frequently assigned to changing priorities, and therefore may be required to work overtime, with the expectation that they will flex their schedule in lieu of compensation.
**EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS**
- B.A. or B.S.
- Minimum 2 years nonprofit experience in a counselling capacity
- A demonstrated passion for working with newcomers, immigrants
- Ability to work easily and effectively with a wide range of people, practicing coaching leadership style, motivation, team building and conflict resolution
- Experience working with persons who require psychological stabilization, crisis and suicide support
- Highly skilled at project management, program development, and systems of accountability
