**Position**:Summer Student - Family & Community Special Events Coordinator

The Candora Society of Edmonton has an employment opportunity for a Family & Community Events Coordinator. This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours per week) for 8 weeks. As part of the Summer Program team, the Family & Community Special Events Coordinator will support Candora’s summer family programs including community events, family field trips, and other activities. This opportunity is being funded through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs program and is for someone between 15 and 30 looking to gain experience working in human services.

**Who We Are**

The Candora Society is a non-profit organization with a community development mandate to work with the residents of Northeast Edmonton to create a positive environment for families to live and grow and to collectively address issues of concern in our communities. The organization has a long history of grass-roots community development that is built upon a participatory learning approach and relationship
- based practice to help affect positive change in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Work alongside the Children and Community Event Organizer to plan and execute the facilitation of group activities and special events for families, children and youth, parents and caregivers, newcomers and members of the Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ community.
- Help organize and assist with community field trips.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of Candora’s annual Multicultural Day event.
- Aid with the preparation of lunches for field trips.
- Perform administrative tasks - maintain field trip sign ups/waitlists, reporting.
- Communicate and engage with partnering agencies and other community stakeholders.
- Attend meetings.
- Other activities as needed.

**Qualifications, Skills & Competencies**
- Knowledge of community development or experience is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and team skills.
- Self-directed, and an ability to collaborate well with other team members.
- Commitment to the vision, mission, values, and beliefs of the Candora Society.
- Strong orientation to community oriented, relationship-based work including an awareness of and sensitivity to issues of participants/community members.
- Clear understanding of professional boundaries and ethics.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Police Security Check and Child Welfare Check are required.
- Must be between 15 - 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee status.
- Valid Social Insurance Number, that does not start with a 9. International youth are not eligible participants.

**Employment type**:Temporary position will end after 8-week term

**Hours of work**:Monday - Friday (8:30 am - 4:00 pm) 35 hours per week

**Expected Start Date**: July 2, 2024

**Wage**: $15.00/hour
