Located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, St. Michaels University School (SMUS) is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 day and boarding school with a global reputation for academic excellence. St. Michaels University School’s External Programs Department offers an array of educational enrichment programs for all students. During holiday periods (winter, spring, summer breaks), the programs provide a learning experience for students aged 6-17 that emphasize skill development, cooperation, participation, and fun.

**The Position**:
In consultation with the Director of External Programs, the Discovery Camp Coordinator coordinates the Summer Discovery Camps, held at SMUS Richmond Road campus for children ages 5 to 10. The Coordinator plans, schedules and implements camps for the months of June, July and August.

**Hours of Work**:
June 5 to September 1, 2023: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- Completed or enrolled in relevant post-secondary education such as Recreation, or Childcare.
- Three years of related experience in a camp setting and/or program development and delivery.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Use sound judgement to solve problems or escalate issues as appropriate.
- Ability to be collaborative and team oriented.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities and schedule and meet deadlines with conflicting demands.
- Ability to work cooperatively and develop positive working relationships.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and organization skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office software: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Valid First Aid certificate.
- Class 5 Driver’s License preferred.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Leads the planning and operation of Discovery Camps, including scheduling of camp staff.
- Coordinates the planning and delivery of age appropriate play opportunities, ensuring they are carried out in a safe and caring environment for children 5 to 10 years old.
- Communicates with camp instructors concerning registration information and supplies them with required equipment.
- Plans weekly out trips for camps.
- Establishes clear and ongoing communication with all stakeholders, including parents, administrators, faculty, and community partners.
- Maintains accurate records and reporting related to enrolment, behaviour, and incidents.
- Monitors how resources are utilised to ensure the Discovery Camps are running in the most efficient and effective manner.
- Undertakes such duties as may become necessary to ensure the successful running of the program.
- Travel between campuses may be required.
- Direct care of children will be required.

**Criminal Record Check**:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
