Bereavement & Palliative Coordinator

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Coordinator is required to perform a range of duties including but not limited to, the following:
- Work as an effective member of the Oceanside Hospice Society (OHS) team providing expertise and guidance in relation to clinical needs of clients
- Conducts client assessments to determine client/family needs and range of available OHS support services; manage waitlist appropriately ensuring clients are supported in a timely manner
- Provides short term grief counselling to individuals, families and groups
- Refers clients to bereavement programs such as: group programs, volunteer led services and community resources as appropriate
- Develops and maintains grief support resource materials
- Assists with assessing and monitoring the effectiveness of bereavement support programs as needed
- Attends weekly leadership meetings
- Coordinates client files ensuring accurate current information
- Meets weekly with the clinical counsellor for client debriefing and professional case management support
- Utilizing best practices, liaises with internal and external stakeholders providing clinical bereavement support and development of strong, trusting relationships
- Provides required statistics and status reports to the Executive Director
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor Degree in counselling, social work, nursing or related field with a minimum of two years grief and loss counselling experience. Experience may be considered in combination with relevant education
- Demonstrated knowledge of the grief process
- Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Demonstrated experience with anticipatory grief; compounded grief; complicated grief; and traumatic loss
- Knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of hospice palliative care and the needs of the dying, their families, and the bereaved
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to develop a working relationship with clients and team members (staff & volunteers)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize and facilitate support systems
- Ability to work in a highly confidential environment
- Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of loss and grief
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries in the face of sorrow, pain, and suffering
- Keen interest in working with volunteers
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently
- High degree of flexibility and initiative
- Effective utilization of technology such as Microsoft, database management etc.
- Ability to represent OHS in the community;
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development through workshops, conferences and professional publications related to grief, bereavement, loss, palliative care, individual and family counselling.
**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 21 per week
